Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Is Unrecognizable In New Photos From Latest Film Set

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has completely transformed into Maui, the demigod he portrays in Disney's live-action Moana, in newly-leaked photos.

In April 2023, Johnston announced the reimagined version of the movie in a prerecorded message played during the Disney 2023 Annual Meeting of Shareholders Webcast. Fans shared mixed reactions at the time. But excitement is growing now that they've gotten a sneak peek of the live-action Moana.

Paparazzi pictures first obtained by People this week show the 52-year-old WWE star and actor in Hawaii on the set of the upcoming version of the 2016 animated film. In the snaps, Johnson donned a long brunet wig, a grass skirt, a pair of brown sunglasses and the same upper body tattoos as his character.

Other images were re-posted on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), with one apparently also featuring a first look at Catherine Laga'aia as the titular star, Moana.

Since the pictures leaked, fans have wasted no time responding, with several suggesting Johnson looks "great" and completely nailed the look.

"He is great," a different social media user wrote in response to a video of the actor on set.

Another described it as a "glow up."

"Oh that’s fire," a different fan declared.

"Omg," one more gushed. "I can’t wait to hear the ‘You’re Welcome’ song!"

Those looking forward to the live-action film will have to practice their patience as the release date was bumped back to July 10, 2026. That said, Disney will give fans another animated version in the meantime, releasing Moana 2 in theaters on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
