Domino’s Has a Brand New Menu Item—and It’s Not Pizza

We're trying both flavors.

Fast food chains, pizza chains, and casual restaurants have to constantly innovate to stay competitive these days. And by innovate, we mean, add new menu items. No longer can a popular restaurant like McDonald’s just sell burgers, McNuggets, and Filet-O-Fish. It now has to come up with new sauces and other menu items, often offering them for a limited time to create urgency and grab customers’ attention.

Sometimes, restaurants have to go completely outside their comfort zones. Last year, Taco Bell put chicken nuggets on the menu—just plain chicken nuggets, not even wrapped in a tortilla—something decidedly not Tex-Mex, although the dipping sauces had a Tex-Mex flair.

Domino’s is going the Taco Bell route and adding a first-of-its-kind menu item that’s not pizza. The pizza chain is launching creamy mac and cheese, and the two varieties sound pretty tasty.

Domino’s New Mac and Cheese Offerings

Classic macaroni and cheese is made with elbow macaroni noodles and usually some variation on Cheddar cheese. Domino’s two new mac and cheese offerings both use five kinds of cheese, and Cheddar is definitely in there, but the pizza chain ups the cheesiness significantly and switches up the pasta.

• 5-Cheese Mac & Cheese: Penne pasta combined with a blend of Cheddar, American, Parmesan-Asiago, mozzarella blend, and Alfredo sauce—all oven-baked to creamy, bubbly perfection.

Mac and cheese lovers can upgrade both versions by adding jalapeños or bacon (or both) for just $0.99 each.

For a limited time, Domino’s customers can try the 5-Cheese Mac & Cheese for just $6.99 when they order through the Mix & Match Deal—any two or more menu items (including Mac & Cheese) for $6.99 each. Domino’s Rewards members can also redeem 60 points for a free order of the cheesy pasta.

Domino’s now has so many non-pizza items on its menu that when the delivery person rings the doorbell, there may be no pizza boxes at all in their hands. Rather, the order could consist of the new mac and cheese, Domino’s wings, and the loaded tots. Sounds like a decadent meal to us!
