A 4-year-old dog is in desperate need of a permanent home.

Major, a pit bull mix, has been at the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Indiana for more than 258 days and “cries endlessly," per the shelter's Facebook video announcement.

The May 7 Facebook post from the Fishers, Ind., shelter informs users that the young dog arrived at the shelter almost a year ago. The stray canine was microchipped, but his original family never came to bring him back home when the shelter contacted them.

The social media post added that Major moved from the shelter's kennels to a different part of the facility because the kennels' surroundings were impacting the dog's emotions.

"The kennels cause him too much stress, so we have moved him to a visiting room, but NOTHING compares to the warmth and love of a family. His spunky personality is dimming. This once jolly ball-lovin' boy now sits in his room and cries endlessly," the Humane Society for Hamilton County wrote on Facebook.

"HE NEEDS OUT NOW, and only you can help him," the shelter added. The organization said Major would do best in a home without cats, and he "needs a home where everyone is 6+ to ensure everyone can handle his size and strength."
