Dick Van Dyke, 98, Noticeably Missing From Emmys After Being Announced as Presenter

Dick Van Dyke doesn’t make many public appearances these days—so fans were understandably excited when he was announced as a presenter for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards. Unfortunately, the 98-year-old actor was noticeably absent from the ceremony.

No explanation has been given yet for why the Mary Poppins star missed the award show. However, just one week earlier, he was in attendance to watch the creators behind a CBS special based on his life and historic career, Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic, win a Creative Arts Emmy.

Following the event, he shared his advice for young actors with reporters.

"You have to stick with it,” Van Dyke said. “You're gonna go through hard times and a lot of auditions...but you have to stay with it. Be patient if you've got the confidence in yourself. It's very important to believe that you can do it."

Several months ago, the Hollywood legend made history with a win at the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards. Van Dyke’s trophy, which he won in the Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series category for his guest appearance on Days of Our Lives, made him the oldest Daytime Emmy winner in the awards show’s history.

Van Dyke was no stranger to the Primetime Emmy Awards, either. He's won four of the awards throughout his career, including three for his classic series The Dick Van Dyke Show, which was on the air from 1961 to 1966.
