Zendaya looked stunning walking the red carpet at the 2025 Golden Globes on Jan. 5 — but fans were more focused on the rock on her left-hand ring finger.

Shortly after the ceremony, a family source confirmed to PEOPLE that Zendaya's Spider-Man costar and boyfriend of three years, Tom Holland, had proposed over the holidays.

Before the news was confirmed, when reporters asked if she was engaged at the Golden Globes, Zendaya just “kept showing her ring, smiled coyly and shrugged her shoulders mysteriously," per the Los Angeles Times.

Holland’s father, Dominic Holland, later shared his thoughts on his son’s proposal plans in a Patreon post.

“Tom, as you know by now, was very incredibly well prepared," the father of four wrote in a blog published Jan. 10. "He had purchased a ring. He had spoken with her father and gained permission to propose to his daughter. Tom had everything planned out ... When, where, how, what to say, what to wear."

The ring choice was also a part of his plan — Holland purchased a gorgeous cushion-cut diamond that the internet went wild over after the Euphoria star slyly wore it in public. One woman even posted a TikTok video theorizing that her ring — a 5.02-carat East-West Cushion Diamond Button Back Ring from British designer Jessica McCormack — is the exact same design as Zendaya’s.

Outside of flashing it in public, the Challengers actress hasn’t shared much about her engagement ring, but many eagle-eyed fans have guessed that the glittering stone is from Jessica McCormack. The accessory is listed on their website under the London-based jewelry brand’s engagement section and features a 5.02ct east-west cushion diamond.

The large, oval-shaped diamond is the star of the show, while the Georgian-style setting adds to the ring’s timeless elegance. The band’s metal can be made from 18K white or yellow gold, according to the shopper's preference.

The ring is estimated to cost around $200,000

On Jessica McCormack’s website, the price of the potential ring in question is only available upon request.

Lisa Ingram, the vice president of merchandising at Signet Jewelers, told PEOPLE that she estimates the ring to cost between $150,000 and $200,000 based on the stone's size.

"Zendaya’s engagement ring strikes a perfect balance between classic elegance and a subtle edge," she said. "Her large button-back oval ring, set in a Georgian style, highlights the continued popularity of vintage cuts while incorporating modern yet unexpected styling through its setting."

Zendaya's engagement ring features a unique orientation

Oval diamonds have been a popular choice for engaged celebrities, with everyone from Hailey Bieber to Blake Lively rocking the cut. But Zendaya took a unique turn with her ring's east-west orientation.

Typically, oval (as well as emerald and solitaire) diamonds are set in a vertical, north-south direction. The Dune star’s horizontal setting is rare — and supposedly has a hidden meaning. Ingram told PEOPLE that the east-west silhouette not only creates the illusion of a larger stone but also reveals an insight into the couple who chose it.

"The east-west setting enhances the natural beauty of the stone and speaks to the growing desire for individuality and maximalism among modern couples who are truly looking for something different," she said.

Zendaya liked a similar style engagement ring on Instagram in 2022

Shortly after the engagement news was confirmed, a few dedicated internet sleuths uncovered that Holland may have found Zendaya's engagement ring by shopping her Instagram likes.

A September 2022 video of a Jessica McCormack ring that she liked looks very similar to the ring she now wears.

Holland proposed to Zendaya over the holidays in 2024

After Zendaya slyly debuted her ring on the red carpet, PEOPLE confirmed via a family source that the pair had gotten engaged over the 2024 holidays.

“Everyone close to them knew an engagement was happening,” another source told PEOPLE of the news, which was originally reported by TMZ. "He's always been crazy about her. He always knew she was the one. They have something very special."
