Derrick White and his wife, Hannah Schneider, have experienced different life chapters together

Derrick White and his wife, Hannah Schneider, go way back.

The pair met during their college days in Colorado, and Schneider has stuck by White’s side ever since. She was with him when he was selected in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs and five years later when he was traded to the Boston Celtics halfway through the 2022 season.

Amid the basketball player's soaring career, White and Schneider married in 2021 and started their own family. Their sons, Hendrix James and Daxton, were born 18 months apart in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

On the View From The Rafters podcast, White candidly opened up about the struggles of being a professional athlete while juggling fatherhood. The point guard shared that while away games are "tough," Schneider helps him stay connected to their children and still be part of special family moments.

“When Hendrix was doing a lot of firsts, I was like, I just want to be there when it happens. So, luckily, I’ve been there for all the big firsts and haven't missed anything major like that,” he explained. “Obviously, it makes it easier nowadays with ... FaceTime.”

They met in college

Prior to playing at the University of Colorado Boulder, White represented the Colorado-Colorado Springs men’s college basketball team.

However, ahead of his senior year, White transferred to Boulder, and during that interim, he crossed paths with Schneider, who was also a college student at the time.

By September 2015, White and Schneider were dating, as evidenced by an Instagram photo the athlete posted honoring her. "Happy birthday to this great girl. ... #loveyou 🎁🎈🎉," he captioned a selfie of them.

They got engaged in 2020

The college sweethearts got engaged in September 2020. For the special occasion, White decorated a rooftop deck with pink and blue balloons and a banner that read, “Will You Marry Me?”

“Till the end,” he wrote alongside a picture of them on the special day.

They married in 2021

Almost a year later, Schneider and White tied the knot on Aug. 28, 2021, in a church ceremony surrounded by close family and friends.

The bride wore a tulle-tiered wedding gown with lace embroidered long sleeves, while the groom opted for black trousers and a white tuxedo jacket. Several of White’s former Spurs teammates were in attendance, including Lonnie Walker IV and Drew Eubanks.

In honor of their first wedding anniversary, White posted a throwback photo of him and Schneider having fun during their reception. “1 year with the best,” he captioned it.

They share two kids

White and Schneider welcomed their first child together, son Hendrix James, on May 19, 2022. Eighteen months later, the couple celebrated the arrival their second son, Daxton, on Nov. 3, 2023.

Hendrix was born several days early, White recalled during an interview with the Boston Celtics. The team was in Miami for the first game of the 2022 Eastern Conference Finals when White got the call that Schneider was heading to the hospital.

“Once I found out she was in labor, I just tried to get that first flight out,” he said.

Unfortunately, the NBA pro wasn’t in the delivery room for Hendrix’s birth due to a missed flight. Still, he kept in contact with Schneider's mom throughout the process and received heartwarming updates.

"I wasn't there, but even just getting pictures and videos and all that on the plane, it was just special, and he's already changed our life," he added.

The couple named their firstborn son after the musician Jimi Hendrix, who White is a longtime fan of. “We picked it before I got traded, and I was like, yeah, it's kind of unique, we don't know anybody with that name,” he explained, adding that his son’s room is decked out in Hendrix artwork.

They’re committed to being the best role models for their sons

While appearing on the View From The Rafters podcast, White opened up about becoming a father and how his own dad “set a great example” of how to be “the perfect role model.”

“I think being there, being present and supporting them is a big thing because that’s pretty much what [my father] was," he said. "Him and my mom were always there, so just having that as a role model has definitely meant a lot to me."

White continued, “I just want to pass it down to the next generation, to Hendrix and Daxton. So far it’s been fun. They just keep growing bigger and bigger each day and doing different things each day."
