Derek Hough Teases 'Possibility' Wife Hayley May Rejoin Dance Tour After Health Crisis: It'll 'Be Unbelievably Special'
"I almost need to rename the tour to the Miracle Tour or something," the 'Dancing with the Stars' judge said of Hayley Erbert's possible return to the stage
Derek Hough is hoping to have wife Hayley Erbert back with him on stage soon.
The Dancing with the Stars judge, 38, shared with E! News that “there’s a possibility” Erbert, 29, will be rejoining their Symphony of Dance tour once she fully recovers from the emergency craniectomy she underwent in December.
"We actually met dancing on stage on tour. Our first kiss was on stage on tour,” Hough explained. “We were touring last year for the first time as a married couple and now this, going back out, there's a completely different meaning and tension."
"I almost need to rename the tour to the Miracle Tour or something," added the professional dancer of Erbert's recovery. "Because if there's a moment where she's with us and joining us on stage, it's going to be unbelievably special.”
“I don't know even know how I'm going to through it,” he confessed. “I'm an emotional guy."
While Erbert’s return to tour hasn't been confirmed, Hough announced he has rescheduled the remainder of his tour after he initially postponed it following his wife's health crisis. The show will resume on April 16 in Tampa, Florida, and conclude in San Diego, California, on May 19.
In early December, Erbert suffered a cranial hematoma after their Symphony of Dance tour stop in Washington D.C. on Dec. 6. She underwent an emergency craniectomy before having cranioplasty surgery to replace a “large portion of her skull" a day later.
Writing on Instagram at the time, Hough shared that the operation had been successful. “This surgery marks a significant milestone in my wife’s recovery journey, and your support has played a crucial role in getting us here,” he wrote in the lengthy caption. “We are filled with hope and optimism for the future, knowing she is on the path to a full recovery, surrounded by such a loving community.”
Since then, the pair have shared updates on Erbert’s condition and progress. Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE earlier this month, Hough shared how supportive both of their families have been and noted that the widespread public support really touched the couple.
“The thing that really makes us — and really her — the most emotional about all of this is just the love that she felt from not just family and friends, but just from everyone. It's a really beautiful feeling and we're just really thankful for that," he said.
Hough also applauded Erbert’s determination and strength throughout her healing process.
“She's incredible. She really is. I double take all the time just seeing the way she's handled this situation with just such elegance and a sense of just accepting it for what it is,” he said of his wife. “She's just an unbelievably determined person and has been unbelievably strong through this whole experience."
