The French-Canadian filmmaker’s astute attention to detail and unique visuals has established him as one of today’s premier directors. Dune: Part Two, his continuation of the film saga and conclusion of Frank Herbert’s novel Dune, was released in March and grossed $714.4 million worldwide. Combined with Villeneuve’s 2021 smash Dune: Part One, the films banked more than $1.12 billion. Both starred Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling and others.

“I am truly honored to receive the CAS Filmmaker Award,” said Villeneuve, whose films also include Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, Sicario, Prisoners, Enemy and Incendies. “This is especially meaningful to me because sound has always been at the core of my storytelling. It’s a powerful tool of expression that keeps fascinating me. It’s what makes us experience moving images through common wavelengths. Furthermore, the immersive power of cinematic sound design and sound dubbing is truly unparalleled when it comes to the theatrical experience. I have been fortunate to work with masters throughout my journey in Hollywood. I am fully aware that I owe them tremendously. I look forward to celebrating the art of sound with all the artists who contribute to its evolution and success.”

Villeneuve scored Best Picture and Adapted Screenplay Oscar nominations for Dune: Part One and a Best Director nom for 2016’s Arrival.
