All About David and Victoria Beckham's Son Romeo James Beckham
David and Victoria Beckham welcomed their second son in 2002
David and Victoria Beckham are nothing but proud of their second child, Romeo James Beckham.
The couple welcomed their second son in September 2002, and he grew up to be a “kind” and “generous” young man. "We are so proud of you and we love you more than words can express, you are our everything," Victoria wrote in a touching Instagram tribute for Romeo's 21st birthday in 2023.
Like his parents, Romeo is fearless when pursuing his passions. He's done some work in the modeling world for brands like Burberry and Vogue, but his true love appears to be athletics, like his father.
“I’ll always support the kids in whatever they want to do but I would love them to be footballers,” David told ESPN in 2007.
His dream came true in 2021 when Romeo joined Fort Lauderdale CF, the sister club of Inter Miami CF, co-owned by Beckham. He’s currently playing forward for Brentford B, a training group for the main Brentford FC.
Off the field, Romeo has a close relationship with his father. "Happy Father's Day to the most talented and amazing dad there is. Love you so much,” he wrote on his Instagram Story in 2023.
Here’s everything to know about David and Victoria Beckham’s son, Romeo James Beckham.
He was born in 2002
Romeo was born on Sept. 1, 2002, in Westminster, London, weighing 7 lbs., 4oz. He was welcomed at Portland Hospital, and “because [big brother] Brooklyn was a breech birth, [Victoria] had to have a cesarean section ... under doctor's orders," a spokesperson told Daily Mail.
"He's got Brooklyn's nose and Victoria's chin," David told reporters shortly after Romeo's birth. The proud father also shared that the moniker was “just a name we love,” per The Guardian.
Romeo is the second of four children. His big brother Brooklyn Beckham was born on March 4, 1999, and Romeo was followed by brother Cruz Beckham on Feb. 20, 2005, and sister Harper Beckham on July 10, 2011.
He dealt with health issues early in life
During the first few years of Romeo's life, he experienced health issues and visited the hospital various times. David and Victoria later revealed that he had been diagnosed with epilepsy, a condition that causes seizures and convulsions.
Reacting to this news, the paparazzi agreed to stop photographing Romeo to avoid triggering the condition with the flashes.
Despite the health concerns, Romeo was a “happy boy,” according to David. “Romeo is the middle child, so he has a bit of a different personality ... They’re great little boys,” he told ESPN at the time.
He’s a seasoned model
Fitting for the son of a fashion designer and international style icon, Romeo became interested in the industry at a young age.
He made his modeling debut at 10 years old in a campaign for Burberry Kids in 2013, which also featured Cara Delevingne, after being named the face of the brand’s children’s line.
Romeo then landed his first magazine cover in 2021 when he shot for L'Uomo Vogue's Generation Issue. Famed photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott captured a blond Romeo in a variety of outfits and poses.
"Excited to share my first cover shoot for @luomovogue 😝,” he wrote on Instagram.
David shared his support, writing on his account, “So proud of you @romeobeckham ❤️ What an incredible first cover for @luomovogue.”
He's pursuing a soccer career like his dad
Romeo made his first real foray into his dad's sport when he enrolled at the Arsenal Football Club Academy at age 13, though he was released after a year. Romeo then tried his hand at tennis — even training alongside pros like Andy Murray — before returning to soccer at 19 as a member of the then-Fort Lauderdale CF.
The American team competes in League One of the United Soccer League, and he made his professional debut in September 2021 in a match against Tormenta FC. The team loaned him to Premier League Brentford's B team, where he debuted in January 2023 with his dad on the sidelines.
“Happy to make my debut @brentfordbteam and get the win 🤩,” Romeo wrote on Instagram alongside photos from the game. In June, he signed a permanent deal to stay with the team on a one-year contract.
"I'm very proud and very happy to be here," Romeo said in a clip posted to the Brentford website. "I came here at the start to keep fit during the off-season. The chance then came to come on loan here, and I've never been so excited."
Aside from soccer, Romeo has enjoyed being athletic in other forms. At 12 years old, the star ran the London Marathon children’s race for charity while his parents cheered him on.
“We r so proud!! Romeo ran London mini Marathon for UNAIDS and 7 Fund x vb,” Victoria posted on Instagram. “Well done Romeo!!”
He's dating model Mia Regan
Romeo has been dating model Mia Regan since May 2019. The pair made their red carpet debut at the British Fashion Awards two years later.
Throughout their relationship, Romeo and Regan have frequently traveled the world together and documented their adventures on social media.
"Crazy how lucky I am with this person :) @mimimoocher ♥️," Romeo captioned an Instagram photo of them on a field.
Regan also often shares her love for Romeo on her Instagram, including a sweet tribute for his 19th birthday.
“4,500 miles away from you, yet still all the love in da world! Happy 19th Ro Ro💖💖💖💖 LOVE U 4 EVA,” she wrote beside an Instagram gallery of photos.
He's supportive of his parents' careers
Romeo doesn't pass up opportunities to celebrate the successes of his parents. When Victoria did a socially-distanced presentation of her spring/summer 2021 collection amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Romeo was by her side with David, Cruz and Harper.
"My favourite (and only) guests this season! 😂 love you all so much,” she captioned family photos on Instagram.
Romeo was also on the guest list at the London premiere of his father’s Netflix documentary, Beckham. "What can I say other than how proud I am of you @davidbeckham, such an amazing premiere 🤍 love my family so much," Romeo wrote on Instagram.
The aspiring soccer star also enjoys having his parents' support in whatever way it comes. Victoria joked that Romeo “used” her for TikTok fame after they made a Spice Girls dance video together. She recalled what happened behind the scenes during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2019.
“He came home the other day and he said, ‘You know, Mom, I’ve just joined TikTok, will you do a dance with me?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, what should we dance to?’ He said the Spice Girls,” Victoria told host Ellen DeGeneres. “And then he took my phone, he posted it on my Instagram, and he said, ‘That’ll get my numbers up.' ”
Still, the former pop star thought "it was a lot of fun" and voiced an observation. "But I have to say, I think that Romeo definitely takes after his dad with his moves,” she added.
He takes style inspiration from his dad
Whether it’s rocking ‘90s fashion or bleach-blonde hair, Romeo has taken a lot of fashion inspiration from his father.
"Nice hair ❤️ @romeobeckham. I wonder where u got that idea from 😂," David commented on Instagram after Romeo debuted a platinum buzz cut much like one he had himself.
Perhaps the biggest nod to his father’s style came in 2022 when Romeo showed off a neck tattoo inspired by his dad’s ink. Tattoo artist Dr. Woo added a cross with angel wings on Romeo’s neck, which matches a similar one his dad has.
For his part, David has a tattoo of his son’s name under the crucifix, according to Men's Health.
