Danny Burstein Set For Broadway’s ‘Gypsy’ Opposite Audra McDonald
Tony winner Danny Burstein will play Herbie to Audra McDonald’s Rose in the upcoming Broadway revival of Gypsy, producers announced today.
A veteran of no fewer than 19 Broadway productions, including his Tony Award-winning performance as Harold Zidler in Moulin Rouge, Burstein is the first cast member besides the previously announced McDonald to be revealed for the much-anticipated musical revival.

Previews begin Thursday, November 21, at the newly renovated Majestic Theatre ahead of an official opening on Thursday, December 19.
Still to be announced is the casting for Rose’s daughters Louise – who becomes the Gypsy of the title – and June.
In addition to Moulin Rouge!, Burstein’s Broadway credits include Pictures From Home, My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, Follies, The Drowsy Chaperone, Titanic and numerous others. Off Broadway productions include Talley’s Folly, Merrily We Roll Along, and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, while his many film and TV credits include Tokyo Vice, The Good Fight, Grease: Rise Of The Pink Ladies, Tick Tick Boom, NCIS: New Orleans, Madam Secretary, Boardwalk Empire and Louie.
Produced by Tom Kirdahy and Mara Isaacs along with Kevin Ryan and Diane Scott Carter, Gypsy will be directed by George C. Wolfe. The musical features a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Camille A. Brown (Hell’s Kitchen, Choir Boy) will choreograph, with music direction and supervision by Andy Einhorn, and additional orchestrations and arrangements by Daryl Waters.
Gypsy will have scenic design by Santo Loquasto, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Jules Fisher + Peggy Eisenhauer, sound design by Scott Lehrer, hair and wig design by Mia Neal and makeup design by Michael Clifton.
