Who Is Dan Campbell's Wife? All About Holly Campbell
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has been married to his wife Holly for more than two decades
Dan Campbell may have a career over two decades long in the NFL, but his marriage with his wife is his longest partnership.
The Detroit Lions head coach has been married to Holly Campbell for over 20 years. The pair have two children together, Cody and Piper, and made the move all together to Detroit, Michigan, after Dan got the coaching gig in 2021.
The position was originally open in 2018, and Dan hoped to get an interview then, he told The Athletic in August 2022, but it wasn’t his time.
“You kind of go through that feeling that the one job I really wanted is the one I’m never going to get,” Holly told the outlet of how he felt when he didn't get the role.
However, together they remained faithful that his chance would come, and, just a few years later, it did. Now, Holly is happy to cheer for Dan and the Lions on the sidelines.
So who is Dan Campbell’s wife? Here’s everything to know about Holly Campbell and her relationship with the NFL coach.
They got married in 1999
The Lions coach and his wife tied the knot in 1999, the same year he was drafted by the New York Giants as a third-round pick.
Campbell played in the NFL for 10 years before he moved on to a coaching career, starting as an assistant coach on the Miami Dolphins and the New Orleans Saints before moving on to the Lions.
They have two children together
Dan and Holly welcomed two children together since marrying: son Cody and daughter Piper.
Cody also grew up playing football and even played at Trinity University before he graduated in May 2022, per his LinkedIn. He now attends the University of Michigan where he is pursuing a master’s in business analytics.
Cody shares his father’s passion for working in the NFL, having held internships with the Saints and the Lions.
Piper is still in high school and is incredibly proud of her father for the work he's done with the Lions. In a sweet tribute to Dan that she posted on Instagram in January 2023, Piper wrote about how much she loves her dad and looks forward to his future with the team.
“This has been crazy. You have shown everyone what the lions are truly made of,” she wrote. “You gave the city something to fight for and that this is not the ‘same old lions’. I cannot wait to see what you do in the future, I know it will be big. I’m so proud of you and love you so much🥰🦁.”
They love their three dogs, Thelma, Louise and Bird
Though Dan originally wasn’t interested in getting two Teacup Yorkies, Holly convinced him otherwise, and the couple welcomed Thelma and Louise into their family. They are also parents to Bird, a Catahoula Leopard Dog. However, it’s the Yorkies that now stick by Dan’s side.
Dan told The Athletic that he got “those two clowns” to appease Holly, but now, they accompany him on his daily walk to Starbucks and sleep nestled into his armpit.
She loves his energy
Dan is known for being a high-energy coach, leading 9 p.m. coaching sessions and lifting everyone’s spirits in the room with his emphatic hand-waving, per The Athletic. His energy is infectious and is one of the things Holly loves about him.
“You can laugh hysterically or get to the point where you say, ‘Stop, just stop talking,' ” she told the outlet.
Holly isn’t the only one who is charmed by his spirit. She told The Athletic that fans stop to chat with Dan everywhere they go, and he’s happy to carry the conversation.
“I’ve always told him he’s magic,” she said. “He’s like the pied piper.”
He is appreciative of her support
When Dan was first announced as the Lions' new head coach, he gave an opening statement at his introductory press conference in Detroit. Before calling out all the people who helped him get to that position in his career, he shouted out his wife for her support through their 20-year marriage.
“I have to thank a lot of people, OK?” Dan said, per the Detroit Free Press. “First and foremost, my wife, Holly. We've been married for over 20 years. She's been my rock, man. She's moved with me, she tells me exactly how it is — in a good way — well not always in a good way, but my point is, she's going to let me know exactly what she thinks, and that's a good thing.”
