His indie is best known for Netflix royal smash The Crown.
Left Bank said Harries’ newly-created post will see him continue to provide oversight and guidance on the creative direction of the Sony-owned company while playing a role in its long-term goals. A new CEO will likely be unveiled over the coming months. Harries will continue to EP shows including the forthcoming adaptation of James Graham’s Dear England; Stephen Butchard’s This City Is Ours – which is being launched this week at the London TV Screenings – and Scott Frank’s Department Q for Netflix, which is due in the early Summer.
Harries said: “These are interesting times. Our business is changing at lightning speed, and this new role means that I can focus on how Left Bank continues to meet the creative and financial challenges of producing top end UK drama in a challenging environment.”
Sony Pictures Television international boss Wayne Garvie called Harries “a television legend.” “Everyone at Sony is overjoyed that we are going to continue our relationship with him in this new role,” he added.
Harries launched Left Bank in 2007. The Crown has undoubtedly been its biggest success, a royal hit that ran for six seasons and put the streamer on the map in the UK. Other shows under Harries’ leadership include Who is Erin Carter?, Three Pines and Sitting in Limbo.
Harries has also been vocal in his support for the British industry. Most recently he has been calling for an upgraded TV tax credit and urging that the UK avoid becoming a “service industry” to Hollywood.
