Cross Is Prime Video’s No. 3 Debut Ever With 40 Million Global Viewers to Date

Alex Cross always get his man. Sometimes, tens of millions of ’em.

Season 1 of Cross, Prime Video’s crime drama based upon the characters from James Patterson’s best-selling Alex Cross novels, racked up more than 40 million viewers globally in its first 20 days of release, the streamer reported on Friday.

Unlike Disney+ and Netflix, Prime Video does not disclose its definition of a “view(er).” Nonetheless, the aforementioned tally bestows Cross with a slew of superlatives. For one, it’s the third-most-watched series debut ever on Prime Video, through its first 20 days.

Looking back on just this year, Cross stands as Prime Video’s second-most-watched series premiere, bested only by Fallout. And comparing all season or season premieres for 2024, Cross ranks No. 3 behind Fallout and Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power‘s Season 2 opener.

Cross has been the #No. 1 title globally on Prime Video during its first 20 days, and reached No. 1 status in more than 100 countries. In fact, more than 55% of Cross’ audience is based internationally — with outsized performance in Germany, the UK, Brazil, Canada and Spain.

TVLine readers gave Season 1 an average grade of “A-“; in advance of Cross‘ debut, Prime Video renewed the series for a second season.

Cross stars Aldis Hodge (Underground, Leverage) as the titular detective, a forensic psychologist who is uniquely capable of digging into the psyches of killers and their victims, in order to identify — and ultimately capture — the murderers.

In addition to Hodge, who also serves as a producer, the cast includes Isaiah Mustafa (Shadowhunters), Juanita Jennings (Star), Alona Tal (SEAL Team), Samantha Walkes (The Kings of Napa), Jennifer Wigmore (Malory Towers), Eloise Mumford (The Right Stuff), Ryan Eggold (New Amsterdam), Caleb Elijah (True Story) and Melody Hurd (THEM).

Ben Watkins serves as showrunner and executive-produces with Patterson, Sam Ernst, Jim Dunn, Craig Siebels, Bill Robinson, Patrick Santa, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Bill Bost.
