A Couple of Plant-Nursery Moguls Are Selling Their Well-Manicured Phoenix Estate for $11.3 Million
The founders of one of Arizona’s most famous plant nurseries created their own secret garden in the heart of Phoenix. Now they’re giving someone else the chance to own it.
Eddie and Debbie Smith, the couple behind the Plant Stand of Arizona, are selling their $11.3 million estate in the manicured Arcadia Proper neighborhood. Built in 2018 by Brimley Development working with the designer Caroline DeCesare, the 8,284-square-foot property brings a touch of California cool to the Arizona desert. Stephanie Tarr and Christian DeAngelis at RETSY hold the listing.

“Calle Del Sud showcases [the Smiths’] impeccable taste and the seamless integration of their professional expertise into their personal sanctuary,” DeAngelis said in a statement.
On the first floor, the chef’s kitchen with Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances flows into the dining room. For more casual gatherings or drinks with friends, there’s a subway-tiled wet bar and cozy conversation space. The formal living room, meanwhile, comes accompanied by a fireplace and features the same custom millwork, ceiling designs, and dark hues found throughout the home.

Up the stairs (or via the private elevator), you’ll find the spacious primary suite: Along with the standard bedroom and spa-like bathroom, there’s a morning/evening bar, a luxe walk-in closet, and breathtaking views of nearby Camelback Mountain. The other four bedrooms all come with their own bathroom, adding up to six and a half baths in total.
Given the Smiths’ field of work, you can be sure that the home’s exterior is on a par with the interiors. The landscaping is lush, while a turf lawn gives you that manicured look without all the upkeep. The heated pool and spa are paired with custom water features and fountains. Sports enthusiasts can even try their hand at pickleball on the dedicated court, or enjoy a few holes on the putting green.
The Smiths initially started their nursery business in Orange County in 1981, before relocating to Phoenix in 1994. Over the years, they’ve expanded their empire to become one of the largest distributors of imported pottery, specialty plants, cacti, and foliage in the Western United States. The Plant Stand of Arizona now encompasses 18 acres of land and four temperature-controlled greenhouses.
