Costco Just Dropped a New Version of a Highly Controversial Item, and Shoppers Say They 'Need It'
If there’s one guarantee in this life, it's that Costco always finds a way to get its members excited. The popular bulk retailer’s Kirkland Signature brand is specifically responsible for a lot of the lore surrounding Costco online. With everything from comfortable clothing to fan-favorite snacks and seasonal bakery creations under its belt, Kirkland Signature has incrementally solidified itself as a brand of the people.
However, you can’t be a brand of the people without having a stronghold on the beverage game. Being no stranger to the arena, Costco’s beloved in-house brand has just released its second iteration of its controversial beer, and fans everywhere are hoping this one actually hits the mark.

Some might remember the flop that was Kirkland Light, but the brand is hoping for a course correction from its previous shortcomings with the new Kirkland Signature Lager. News of the new lager has been spreading online like wildfire, as fans have been trying to find out whether or not it is an improvement from the fabled Kirkland Light. Kirkland Lager is reported to be brewed by Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon, which does add a touch of credibility to the equation.
“I live in Oregon,” one Redditor wrote in response to a post shared about the new lager arrival. “Deschutes is reputable,” they continued, “it will not be the same quality as whatever that God awful Kirkland Light is.”

“It is smooth, crisp with just a little bit of bite to it. Very easy drinking,” one commenter wrote. “I think Costco did a nice job with this, unlike the 48 pack of water the last time they put their name on beer.” That one’s pointed at you, Kirkland Light.
Other comments chimed in to praise Deschutes Brewery for their excellent beers, while the author of the post shared to Reddit offered their personal review to help clear the air. “Reporting back,” they wrote. “It tastes good. It's a light beer with 4.5% alcohol and smells good. It's a good pairing for spicy food.”
At the moment, Costco is selling 12-packs of Kirkland Lager with 12-ounce cans inside for $13.99. Customers can expect to find the new beer available at a warehouse location near them as the weeks progress.
As of now, some Redditors have reported not being able to find Kirkland Lager anywhere near them, which suggests that maybe a regional rollout is on the books with a wider availability to come soon. Stay tuned and drink responsibly this holiday season.
