Conjoined Twin Abby Hensel's Exciting Family Update Revealed

Abby and Brittany Hensel

Abby Hensel, who rose to fame alongside her conjoined twin Brittany after first appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1996, is married!

The news comes after Today uncovered public records indicating that Abby wed nurse and United States Army veteran Josh Bowling in 2021—nine years after the twins' one-season reality series Abby & Brittany documented their lives as they wrapped up their degrees in education.

Born in 1990, the two were diagnosed as dicephalus conjoined twins, which, according to the National Institute of Health, means twins with two heads on a single body, which may have two to four arms, two hearts, and two legs. The Hensels share a bloodstream and all of their organs below the waist, with Abby controlling the right arm and leg and Brittany controlling the left.

Their parents spoke about trying to separate them when they were born, but the risks to both of the girls were too high.

Today, the three live in Minnesota, where the girls, now 34, grew up and now teach fifth grade.

They've maintained fairly private lives since the end of their docuseries on TLC, though several photos of them appear on Bowling's social media (now deactivated), including a sweet family portrait outside, a trip to the ice cream shop, and some Halloween shenanigans. Their private Facebook account also features a snap from the wedding as their profile pic, as well as TikTok account @abbyandbrittanyhensel.

As of writing, Abby did not respond to Today's request for comment, but photos suggest that Bowling may have a seven-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, who is frequently seen smiling alongside the trio in photos.

In a documentary called Joined for Life, released in 2003, the two opened up about having kids one day, with Brittany telling producers, "Yeah, we're going to be moms. We haven't thought about how being moms is going to work yet. But we're just 16 — we don't need to think about that right now."
