'Congratulations': Fans and celebs celebrate the birth of the royal baby

The royal baby is here and the internet has gone into meltdown with royal fans ecstatic for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared the news of the birth of their first child, a baby boy, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A beaming Prince Harry said the pair were "absolutely thrilled" and thanked the public for their support.

He said Meghan and the baby were doing "incredibly well" and that the baby "is absolutely to die for”.

Big landmarks including the National Theatre, the London Eye and the BT Tower have lit up in honour of the baby.

Fans who have been patiently holding their breath waiting for the arrival of the bub couldn’t contain their excitement when the announcement was made on the Sussex Royal Instagram account.

“Congratulations, Meghan and Harry! Barack and I are so thrilled for both of you and can't wait to meet him,” Michelle Obama Tweeted.

“Congratulations, Meghan and Harry! Barack and I are so thrilled for both of you and can't wait to meet him. #RoyalBaby,” Ellen Degeneres said.

Prince Harry said the birth was ‘amazing, absolutely incredible’, as he spoke to the media in Windsor.

“As I say, I am so incredibly proud of my wife and, as every father and parent would ever say your baby is absolutely amazing, this little baby is absolutely to die for," a smiling Harry told reporters outside Buckingham Palace.”

A birth notice was also posted to the official Instagram account of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

“This afternoon, His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex shared the news of the arrival of his and the Duchess’ first born child. Their son was born early morning on the 6th of May, 2019 and weighs 7lbs and 3oz,” it said.

“Their Royal Highnesses thank you for your support and kindness during this exceptionally joyful time in their lives as they welcome their baby boy.”
