Colin Jost Appears Shocked As 'SNL' Crowd Cheers For Luigi Mangione

Colin Jost appeared surprised when the crowd cheered for Luigi Mangione during a joke Jost told about the suspected murderer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in a recent “Weekend Update” segment on “Saturday Night Live.”

“Luigi Mangione dropped,” Jost said as he began his joke.

The “SNL” audience immediately erupted in cheers as Jost looked around confused.

“Yeah,” he continued. “Yeah, definitely woo. You’re wooing for justice, right?”

The audience laughed as Jost finished his joke.

“Luigi Mangione dropped his extradition fight and was flown from Pennsylvania to New York to face multiple charges,” he said. “In related news, Bumble exploded.”

Mangione, who’s indicted on three murder charges in New York for allegedly killing Thompson, has been deemed a heartthrob online. Upon being named a suspect, social media users began making edits of the 26-year-old with his mugshot photos, as well as other images of him people have found online.

When New York Police Department officers and New York City Mayor Eric Adams escorted Mangione to a federal courthouse on Thursday, people also shared photos from the escort on X, formerly called Twitter, with one person declaring a picture of Mangione in an orange jumpsuit with handcuffs a “late contender for hardest image of the year.”

Along with the three state charges in New York, Mangione also faces four federal charges, including murder. That charge could make him eligible for the death penalty.
