Colin Farrell Thanked Craft Service in Surprising Golden Globes Speech — Meet the Woman Who Got His Shoutout (Exclusive)
PEOPLE spoke to Carolina Cadmilema, who Farrell said "kept the whole crew going" in a heartfelt moment from his Golden Globes acceptance speech
Last weekend’s Golden Globes Awards show had Zendaya’s showstopping engagement ring, blush-worthy monologues from host Nikki Glaser and a touching tribute in Colin Farrell’s acceptance speech
The Irish actor took home the trophy for best male actor in a limited or anthology series for his part in The Penguin during Sunday, Jan. 5’s awards ceremony. His acceptance speech included a heartfelt message to a typically unsung hero on sets: craft service.
“No one to thank on this one — I did it all by myself. Just a raw, pared-away performance,” Farrell began the speech before shaking his head and saying there were “too many people to thank.” “You all know it takes a village, whether it’s on the small screen or the big screen. I’m here on the backs of the talent of so many people through the years — maybe this one more than others.”
He thanked makeup artist Michael Marino, who designed Oswald Cobblepot’s look, as well as his "extraordinary" team. "All it took was three hours in the chair in the morning," Farrell explained. "I drank black coffee, listened to '80s music, and I became a canvas for that team's brilliance.”
"I guess it's prosthetics for here on out," he teased, continuing on to thank 2022’s The Batman director Matt Reeves for “employing” him and the other nominees in the category.
Just as he started to leave the microphone, apologizing for forgetting anyone in his speech, Farrell’s face suddenly lit up and he exclaimed “Oh!” “Craft service, our great dame,” he said of the team that feeds the cast and crew on a film set and the room applauded in agreement. “Carolina! Carolina! On those cold winter nights in New York where I was the only one overheating she’d be there with a coconut water every half hour. Carolina, God bless you, she kept the whole crew going.”
PEOPLE caught up with the praised craft service worker, Carolina Cadmilema, who is still gushing over the “blessing from [Farrell] and from God.”
The 44-year-old, who has worked in craft services for more than two decades, thought there was a family emergency on Sunday night when her phone wouldn’t stop ringing. Cadmilema “forgot” about the awards show and went to bed early to prepare for an early call time for the TV set she is working on.
“Someone sent me the video and I started screaming,” she told PEOPLE, saying her son woke up and the pair started screaming together over the excitement. “I didn't have no words at the moment and still I cannot believe it. I don't have no words to express, because it's a feeling of happiness. It is like a dream that you never expected.”
Cadmilema said she worked directly with Farrell on the set of the HBO and Max show, making sure he had fruit, yogurt and green juice in morning, an oat milk latte in the afternoon and, of course, the coconut water mentioned in the speech.

She wanted to “make sure that he's hydrated, that he's eating, because he's being all day with the suit.” While on set, Farrell looked out for Cadmilema nearly as much as she looked after him. “He [would] come and ask, ‘Are you doing okay? Are you fine? Did you eat?’ I would always say to him, ‘Don't worry about me. I can make sure that you're okay.’ He [was] like, ‘No, I have to worry about you!’” she explained. “He's such a nice person, such a nice human.”
“All the times that I spent with him, oh my God, it was amazing,” Cadmilema said. “I don't have no words, but I feel like I'm so blessed that I have worked with him.”
To maintain her professionalism, Cadmilema didn’t reach out to the actor directly to thank him for the speech but explained that she did text his sister, whom she had also built a “good relationship” with. “She gave him the message. That's the only way that I could thank him for the beautiful speech,” she said.
