Yahoo Lifestyle Cineverse & Horror Streamer Screambox Land North American Rights To ‘Cannibal Comedian’

Cineverse and Screambox, the horror-focused streaming platform of Cineverse’s Bloody Disgusting subsidiary, have teamed with Scream Team Releasing for North American rights to the Sean Haitz indie pic. A March release has been set.

Billed as a “twisted mix of gut-busting laughs and terrifying thrills,” the genre-bending thriller stars Aaron Prager (Haunted House of Pancakes), Austin Judd (Big Top Evil), Robert Dunnes (Criminal Minds) and horror veterans Allen Danzinger and Edwain Neal, known for their roles in 1974’s classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Written and directed by Haitz (Big Top Evil), Cannibal Comedian tells the story of “a psychopathic cannibal who is fed up with his lack of ambition and takes a stab at stand-up comedy in an attempt to chase both his dreams and his victims.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Cineverse and Scream Team Releasing to bring Cannibal Comedian to the horror and stand-up comedy fans,” says Haitz. “I think people are really going to eat it up. It’s a love letter to my favorite horror classics like Texas Chainsaw and comedies such as Ace Ventura. When I first moved out to Los Angeles, I had the opportunity to try my hand at stand-up and quickly realized how brutal it was, but for the main character of ‘Charlie,’ he kills both on stage and off stage.”
Deal for the rights was negotiated by Brandon Hill, Executive Director of Acquisitions at Cineverse, Scream Team Releasing founder Justin M. Seaman and its Head of Acquisitions Mark Reyes, and Haitz’ Happy Fright Films label, alongside producer Ryan James (Chasing Chasing Amy) of Pink Plaid Productions.
The plan is to launch the film on HD Blu-ray and VHS on March 1, then a release on digital platforms including Prime Video, Apple TV, Microsoft Xbox, Google Play and Fandango at Home. It will begin streaming exclusively on Screambox on March 4.
“Excited to be working with Sean, Ryan and Scream Team Releasing on Cannibal Comedian,” said Cineverse’s Hill. “They’ve put together a really fun and dynamic film and our Screambox and Bloody Disgusting audience will really chew into it.”
Cineverse, an indie streamer, is known best for films such as the Terrifier franchise and will soon release The Toxic Avenger, which is due for a nationwide release.
