A child has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after she was run over by a ute on Queensland’s popular K’Gari.

Emergency services rushed to the island, formerly known as Fraser Island, late on Wednesday morning after reports a toddler had been reversed over.

It is understood the rear and front tyres of the “large vehicle” rolled over the girl at a slow speed, pushing her face first into the sand.

The child was reportedly unresponsive immediately after the shocking incident, before her father performed CPR for about a minute.

She was then rushed to an area on the eastern side of the island by her parents where she was picked up by the LifeFlight helicopter.

The toddler was suffering extensive bruising and tyre marks to her leg, back and ear when the Bundaberg-based helicopter arrived.

She was treated by the RACQ LifeFlight Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Flight Paramedic before being flown to hospital.

The child currently remains at Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane with her mother and is in a serious but stable condition.

In a statement, RACQ said the child and her mother had been driven about 400m to the waiting rescue helicopter by a K’gari ranger.
