Chelsea Handler Has Brutal Reply When Asked If She’d Date Elon Musk To Save U.S.

It doesn’t look like Chelsea Handler’s horizontal life will ever include Elon Musk.

Over the weekend, New York magazine contributing editor Kara Swisher interviewed Handler at South by Southwest (SXSW) for her podcast, “On With Kara Swisher.”

Although their interview hasn’t aired on Swisher’s podcast as of Monday, the journalist did upload a couple of clips to her Instagram Story, including one in which Swisher revealed a suggestion she made to the comedian before their interview.

“I told her to take one from the team and date Elon Musk,” Swisher admitted to a laughing audience.

“Yeah, I’m not that much of a teammate,” Handler replied.

“He has the money,” Swisher interjected with a giggle.

“I don’t think I can do it. I mean, there’s a lot I would do for this country,” Handler said. “But having sex with Elon Musk is not one of them. I can’t. I can’t.”

This wasn’t all Handler had to say about the tech billionaire, who has been givena nonelected “special government employee” position in President Donald Trump’s administration.

Handler seemed to be just as bewildered and dismayed as many Americans by Musk’s role as the “de facto” head of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, which so far has proved to be anything but efficient. The only thing Musk’s DOGE seems to have accomplished thus far is causing chaos at government agencies andhiring back nonpartisan federal employees who were illegally fired in a massive layoff spree the White House has said is meant to cut “waste, fraud and abuse.”

Many Democratic leaders believe DOGE spending cuts are simply a thinly veiled vehicle to preserve a 2017 tax cut for the wealthy that’s about to expire.

“When they cut the government to smithereens or fire people or break the law, it’s all in service of tax breaks for their billionaire buddies,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told HuffPost in February.

Handler seemed to agree with Schumer’s take, at least according to another clip that was uploaded to Swisher’s Instagram Story.

“I mean did anyone vote for Elon Musk to be the president?” Handler asked the SXSW audience in the second clip. “I mean, can’t we come together — Republicans and Democrats — and say we don’t want that. Can’t we agree on that at least?”

The Daily Beast, which seems to have obtained a larger portion of Handler’s interview with Swisher, reported that, at one point in the conversation, Handler admitted she doesn’t “have answers” on how Democrats should push back against Trump’s more egregious policy decisions. But she did mention one effective way voters could convey their disapproval.

“Trump is not out for anybody but rich people, as we all know,” Handler said, per the Daily Beast. “Everyone who voted for him in the hopes of something else or some aspirational hope of a better life, a better economy, they’re wrong. That’s not going to happen.”

Handler then reportedly added: “People aren’t going to be pleased with this when the next midterms come around.”

At one point, Swisher noted that Handler is among the people who are likely to benefit from Trump’s tax cuts. “Yeah, I don’t need the help,” the comedian said, per the Daily Beast. “I’m happy to give my money to the people.”
