With their daughter, Princess Eugenie’s wedding just around the corner it has got some reflecting on the 1986 nuptials of Prince Andrew and Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson.
So much so, it appears the whole world may have missed a very cheeky moment from their wedding 22 years ago.
Taking a closer look at some footage from the ceremony as the couple were exchanging their vows, Fergie, then 26, wasn’t afraid to make a bold statement giving Andrew a wink as she promised to “obey” him – very saucy.
While it is difficult to see the cheeky moment in the footage, due to Fergie’s veil she does turn her head towards Andrew at the exact moment she utters the words “obey”.
Of course the affectionate gesture was quite out of character for the royal family – and arguably still is – simply because public displays of affection between royals are few and far between.
At the time some news publications reported a few onlookers had seen Fergie wink.
“Some spectators said they saw her wink at Andrew beneath her veil as she vowed to ‘obey’ her husband,” The Los Angeles Times apparently reported in 1986.
In fact, this wasn’t the only time during the ceremony Fergie winked.
As she and Andrew were leaving Westminster Abbey together, she shot a wink to someone in the crowd.
From the beginning of her time as a duchess, it seems Fergie wasn’t afraid to make a statement – oh how the Queen must’ve loved that.
Now we’re just excited what the 58-year-old will have in store on Eugenie’s wedding day on October 12.
