“The Challenge”'s Leroy Garrett Recalls Giving His Dad His Final Haircut Before Burial: 'What a Blessing'
The MTV star, who also works as a barber, shared on Instagram on Sept. 23, that he "laid my Daddy to rest" the previous weekend
The Challenge’s Leroy Garrett, who works as barber outside of his reality TV career, gave a very special haircut recently.
Garrett, 39, shared on Instagram on Monday, Sept. 23, that the previous weekend, he and his family “laid my Daddy to rest” and he posted a video giving his dad last hair cut in the casket in which he was buried.
“What a blessing that was to send him home to God looking his best,” Garrett wrote. “To be honest, I was scared as hell. I prayed and asked God to get me through it. I felt my Daddy’s spirit tell me, ‘It’s ok son, it’ll be just like old times, God has been preparing you for this moment since you first cut my hair. You just didn’t know it!’ Mannnn, I felt those words in my soul and it gave me strength.”
The Real World: Las Vegas alum stated that he spoke to his dad as he gave him his haircut.
“We reminisced, even shared some jokes,” Garrett continued. “He was a jokester just like me. There was no time to be sad or cry, because that’s not what we did during hair cuts. We talked s---, laughed, and plotted on ways to get rich. Lord knows my Daddy was always up to something.”
Garrett wrote that his dad “had that hustler spirit,” but now, “No more work though Daddy, your job is done.”
“Your investment of being a great father and a man of God, has secured you a spot in heaven. Job well done 👌🏽🫡🙏🏽,” he added. “My Daddy was a great man, everyone loved him. I’m thankful for the time I got to spend with him. I will hold on to those memories and cherish them forever. Although he’s know no longer here in the flesh, I will continue to talk to him in the Spirit. Thank you for everything you’ve done for our family. You took care of us. Now God, will take care of you. I love you and will miss you always.”
The MTV star admitted that the last few months had been tough as he awaited “the day that God would come” for his father.
“Although it hurts and saddens me, it brings me a sort of comfort knowing he’s truly in a better place,” Garrett — who shares two children, son Kingston, 2, and daughter Aria, 6 months, with his fiancée Kam Williams — wrote. “No pain, no sorrow, just pure bliss.”
Garrett’s Challenge castmates flooded the comments section of his vulnerable post with support.
“I’m sorry for your loss Leroy. They both watching over you now❤️. Peace to you and your heart. You’re the strongest man and Dad,” Laurel Stucky wrote.
Jenna Compono sent her love to Garrett. “Oh Leroy I am so sorry for your loss,” she commented. “What an honor to give him the perfect haircut before he lay to rest. Love you guys! ❤️”
Tori Deal chimed in, “Tears. So so sorry for your loss. Sending you so much love ❤️.”
Paulie Calafiore shared a similar sentiment. “Sorry for your loss Lee ❤️ Sending love and prayers to you and your family ❤️,” he wrote.
Garrett appeared on the current season of The Challenge, Battle of the Eras, competing with Era 3 with standouts like Deal, 31, Amanda Garcia, Tony Raines, Devin Walker, Cory Wharton and Jordan Wiseley. Garrett’s time on the show didn’t last long, thought, as he lost to Raines, 36, in the first elimination of the season.
