Carl Weathers Remembered by The Mandalorian Cast: ‘There Are No Words’
Pedro Pascal, like many of us, is at a loss for words in the wake of Mandalorian co-star Carl Weathers’ passing.
Weathers, a star of Rocky films and of course Disney+’s flagship Star Wars series, died peacefully in his sleep on Feb. 1.

“Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life,” his family said in a statement. “Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”
An official cause of death was not included in the statement.
On The Mandalorian, Weathers played Greef Karga, the leader of the Bounty Hunters’ Guild based out of the planet Nevarro; in that capacity, he served as an adversary-of-sorts, and then ally, to “Mandoooo!” Most recently, Karga has served as the Magistrate of Nevarro.
In an Instagram message posted soon after news of Weathers’ passing broke, Mandalorian front man Pascal wrote, “words fail 💔,” accompanied by a headshot of a younger Weathers.
Though it’s unclear if Pascal and Weathers actually every worked together on-set — Pascal famously provides voiceover for most of the helmet-wearing Mando’s scenes — they certainly did press for the series together, appeared at fan events (as seen in the photo above), and participated in a roundtable discussion in Disney+’s Disney Gallery “making of” special for Season 1 of The Mandalorian.
“I am heartbroken by this devastating loss,” adds Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau. “He was a hero from my childhood who I was lucky enough to meet and then had the amazing good fortune to work with. He had the energy and curiosity of a young man paired with the wisdom that his rich life and career afforded him. My heart goes out to his family and countless admirers.”

Katee Sackhoff, who plays The Mandalorian‘s Bo-Katan, posted this touching tribute on Instagram: “There are no words. I’m in complete shock. Carl and I found a friendship off camera bonding over our love of the PNW and the importance of family. He was so proud of his family. Brendan Wayne said it best…never did I ever meet a guy who seemed like he would live forever. Rest in Peace my friend. I hope you’ve found your plot of land again.”
Giancarlo Esposito, who played Mando villain Moff Gideon, shared on X, “I will sorely miss my dear friend & brother Carl Weathers. You are truly one of the most wonderful human beings I have had the honor & pleasure of spending time with! I am grateful for your influence & support of all things good in my life.”
Ming-Na Wen, who plays mercenary Fennec Shand on The Mandalorian, also remembered Weathers on Instagram: “I cannot believe this wonderful man is gone. I’m shocked and heartbroken… RIP, Carl. I will miss your positivity, your generous heart, your humor and your friendship and guidance. You were a gem of a human being with a naughty twinkle that I adored. I’m so sad. Just so so sad.”
