Camilla's granddaughter was rushed to hospital in an air ambulance

Camilla has opened up about the frightening moment her granddaughter was rushed to hospital in an air ambulance.

The 71-year-old Duchess of Cornwall was visiting an airbase near Chippenham yesterday, when she spoke about the terrifying experience in a speech.

“I just really wanted to say a huge thank you to everybody who has been involved with this wonderful project. I know what fantastic work the air ambulance does,” Camilla started.

“I’ve seen it and I have known friends that have literally been saved by it.

“My granddaughter was taken off in the Yorkshire one, one year, and luckily she was sorted and alright, but it gave my daughter such confidence to be aboard it.”

While she didn’t mention her by name, it’s thought Camilla was speaking about her nine-year-old granddaughter Eliza Lopes.

Eliza is the daughter of Laura Lopes, Camilla’s 40-year-old daughter from her marriage to Andrew Parker Bowles.

When Prince William and Kate Middleton decided to wed in 2011, they had Laura’s adorable daughter Eliza as their flower girl.

Camilla is a proud grandmother of five, with her daughter Laura being mum to nine-year-old Eliza and eight-year-old twins, Gus and Louis and the Duchess’ son, Tom, being father to 11-year-old Lola and eight-year-old Freddie Parker Bowles.

The Duchess claimed in The Real Camilla: HRH The Duchess of Cornwall documentary that she loves nothing better than spoiling her grandkids.

“It’s very nice because you haven’t got the full responsibility,” she said.

“You can give them a wonderful time, spoil them, give them all the things their parents won’t allow them to have and then give them back again.”

Camilla also revealed in the BBC One documentary, Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70 that Prince Charles is an incredible grandfather.

“He reads Harry Potter and he can do all the different voices and I think children really appreciate that,” she said.

“He will get down on his knees and crawl about with them for hours, you know, making funny noises and laughing, and my grandchildren adore him, absolutely adore him.”

Laura Parker Bowles tied the knot to Harry Lopes in 2006, with both Prince Harry and Prince William in attendance.

Also at the lavish ceremony, which was held in Wiltshire, was Prince William’s then girlfriend Kate Middleton.

Tom married fashion writer Sara Parker Bowles in 2005, however sources claimed earlier this year that they were experiencing ‘difficulties’ in their marriage.
