Caitlin Clark Shares Sweet Photo of a Hug with Boyfriend Connor McCaffery on Draft Day: 'I'm Lucky'

On Instagram Thursday, the WNBA Rookie of the Year looked back on the moment that launched her pro basketball career

Caitlin Clark is looking back on the moment that launched her record-setting rookie season!

On the same day that she was crowned WNBA Rookie of the Year, the basketball phenom, 22, shared a special memory on her Instagram Stories on Thursday, Oct. 3.

Clark posted a photo of herself and boyfriend Connor McCaffery from the 2024 WNBA Draft, in which she was selected as the No. 1 pick.

In the image, the two hug while others in the background clap at the celebratory moment.

“I’m lucky,” Clark wrote, tagging her boyfriend of more than one year.

Since playing basketball at Iowa, the athletes have each found success in Indiana.

McCaffery, 26, the son of legendary Iowa coach Fran McCaffery, worked for the Indiana Pacers before recently being lured a few miles away to Butler University, where he will embark on a new basketball season — this time, as an assistant coach.

Meanwhile, Clark’s first year in the league was marked by outstanding play.

The phenom started all 40 games for Indiana in her rookie season, averaging 19.2 points, 8.4 assists (a WNBA high, per the league), 5.7 rebounds and 1.33 steals. The WNBA All-Star also led the rookie class in assists, points, steals and minutes played this season, and she also had the league's second-highest percentage in free throw shooting with 90.6% accuracy.

Following the official announcement that she was the league’s ROY, McCaffery shared his pride about Clark’s achievement on his own Instagram Stories.
