Bruce Springsteen Reveals How He Really Feels About Jeremy Allen White Playing Him in New Biopic

Bruce Springsteen has some thoughts on Jeremy Allen White's singing.

During an appearance on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio, the "Thunder Road" singer told SiriusXM host Jim Rotolo about White's performance in the upcoming biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere – namely, his singing.

"He sings well. He sings very well," Springsteen, 75, said. "You know, and Jeremy Strong and Odessa Young, you know, it’s a tremendous cast of people. They cast the film beautifully, so it’s very exciting."

Springsteen also spoke about what it was like seeing someone else portray him. Though he said it was "a little bit" weird at first, "you get over that pretty quick."

"Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it," he continued. "He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize and he’s just done a great job, so I’ve had a lot of fun. I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there."

Springsteen has been supportive of the biopic being made about him. He even visited White, 33, on the film set in Bayonne, N.J. in November.

Alongside White, Strong portrays Springsteen's longtime manager and mentor Jon Landau, while Young stars as Springsteen's love interest, Faye. Rounding out the cast is Johnny Cannizzaro as E Street Band member and guitarist Stevie Van Zandt, Paul Walter Hauser as guitar tech Mike Batlan, with Stephen Graham and Gaby Hoffman as Springsteen's parents.

Eric Vetro, a vocal coach who worked with White to prepare him for the role of the New Jersey legend, told PEOPLE about how the actor "threw himself into playing" Springsteen.

"He doesn't tell you what he's going to do. He just does it," Vetro said. "And so, he has a certain energy about him, where you just feel like he's going to jump in 100% and throw himself into the role, and that's what he did. He just threw himself into playing Bruce Springsteen."

Vetro pointed out that singing like The Boss "takes a lot of energy." "It takes a lot of oomph and energy, because Bruce doesn't phone it in. He's like full out, if I can say, balls-to-the-wall singing. It's that full-out belting of those songs, and Jeremy just flung himself into it."

Deliver Me from Nowhere follows Springsteen making his 1982 album Nebraska, which Vetro said focuses on "soft, quiet and introspective" songs.

"And he captured that really beautiful too. Really beautifully. We had been working for a while and then he started singing the Nebraska song. And I was really astonished at how beautifully he had captured it."

"The development of Nebraska, which followed Springsteen’s 1981 The River Tour, marked a pivotal time in his life, one that he would only openly talk about decades after its release," a description of the film reads.

"It’s regarded as a landmark in his musical odyssey and a source of inspiration for a generation of artists and musicians."

Deliver Me from Nowhere is expected to premiere in 2025.
