Michelle Yeoh ‘Heartbroken’ Over Brothers Sun Cancellation: ‘Hard to Understand Why’
The Brothers Sun star Michelle Yeoh is among those puzzled over the show’s recent cancellation at Netflix.
“Heartbroken… and finding it so hard to understand why,” Yeoh wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday. “However, I am so very proud of my Brothers Sun family and what we presented to the world. Heads held high.”

News broke on Friday that Netflix had axed the crime dramedy after just one season. The following day, Justin Chien, who co-starred as Yeoh’s TV son Charles, thanked fans on Instagram for “riding with us on this labor of love,” adding: “It will take some time to digest this news, but I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your love and support for the show.”
The Brothers Sun followed Chien’s Charles as he returned to Los Angeles to protect Yeoh’s Eileen, the matriarch of a powerful Taiwanese crime family, and his clueless brother Bruce (Sam Song Lei) after the death of their father.
In his post, Chien went on to give kudos to the cast, crew and writers for “giving their blood, sweat, and tears to make the best show possible.” He later recognized Netflix for “giving our story a platform and giving me the opportunity to play a dream role.”
Before signing off, Chien vowed to continue his career with the same dedication he displayed in the eight-episode series. “I gave everything I had to this show, and I can’t wait to do the same in the next project, whatever, whenever it may be — I promise I will give it my all,” he wrote.
The Brothers Sun is the latest show to get cancelled by Netflix, with the Vegas-set action-comedy Obliterated getting the axe in January. The streamer also pulled the plug on Shadow and Bone and Glamorous in November, along with animated series Agent Elvis, Farzar and Captain Fall.
