Woods and Tyson will join McDonald and the recently announced Danny Burstein in the revival of the classic Arthur Laurents-Jule Styne-Stephen Sondheim musical at the Majestic Theatre. Previews begin Thursday, November 21, ahead of the official opening on Thursday, December 19.

The casting announcement was made today by producers Tom Kirdahy and Mara Isaacs along with Kevin Ryan and Diane Scott Carter. Also newly announced today: Gypsy‘s “You Gotta Get A Gimmick” strippers Tessie Tura, Miss Mazeppa and Miss Electra will be played by Lesli Margherita, Lili Thomas and Mylinda Hull, respectively.

Full casting to be announced shortly.

Directed by George C. Wolfe, the Gypsy revival is one of the most anticipated productions of the fall season, with the six-time Tony winner McDonald starring as Rose and Burstein as Herbie.

Prior to The Notebook, Woods made her Broadway debut in 2022 as Catherine Parr in Six: The Musical. The following year she played Martha Mills in the Off Broadway revival of I Can Get it For You Wholesale.

Tyson made her Broadway debut in The Notebook when that musical began performances last March.

Margherita won the Laurence Olivier Award for her West End debut in Zorro The Musical and originated the roles of Mrs. Wormwood in Matilda The Musical and Mona Kent in Dames at Sea on Broadway. Thomas made history last year on Broadway as the first Asian American Mama Morton in Chicago, while Hull made her Broadway debut in the 2001 production of 42nd Street, with subsequent Broadway credits including Sweet Charity, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Nance and Mr. Saturday Night.

Gypsy, suggested by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, features a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The revival will feature choreography by Camille A. Brown, music direction and supervision by Andy Einhorn, and additional orchestrations and arrangements by Daryl Waters.
