Brittany Furlan is revealing the way an apparent joke from podcaster Brooke Schofield about kissing the star’s husband Tommy Lee sent her “spiraling.”

Furlan, 38, married Lee, 62, in 2019 — but on the new episode of her podcast This Is the Worst, Furlan says she was forced to question the Mötley Crüe rocker after Schofield said in a vlog that she’d kissed him at Coachella.

Furlan eventually reached out to Cancelled co-host Schofield, 27, about the alleged kiss, and Schofield explained it was just a joke — but it wasn’t one Furlan found funny.

“I got worked up. I started questioning my husband, which I felt really bad [about],” she said. “I started kind of putting heat on my husband, going, ‘Did you?’ My husband’s sitting here going, ‘I’ve never even seen this person.’ And I felt so bad for my husband, because I was being… Then I realized people sometimes just say stuff.”

Furlan, a comedian and actress, said she doesn’t often look through her DM requests on Instagram, but was checking several weeks ago when she found a slew of concerning messages from April. People had reached out to her after watching a vlog posted by Tana Mongeau, in which Schofield appears and says, “I just kissed Tommy Lee.”

“I was like, ‘Wait, what?’ And then I’m like, in my head spiraling because I left Coachella a day early because I was just like, over it,” she recalled. “I start spiraling, because I’m like, ‘Oh my God, did my husband kiss Brooke Schofield?’ And so I go to my husband and I show him a picture of Brooke and I’m like, ‘Babe, did you kiss this girl?’”

She continued: “He’s like, ‘I’ve literally never seen this girl before in my life.’ And I believe him, because I’m just like, that would be really weird, right? But also, she said it on Tana’s vlog, like, why would she say that?”

To get to the bottom of it, Furlan reached out to Mongeau because the two follow each other on Instagram. She messaged Schofield, too, but asked Mongeau to tell Schofield to check her Instagram DMs — and was left on read.

Furlan tried again the next day, saying she reached back out to Mongeau asking her to “please be a girls’ girl,” and this time Schofield's Cancelled co-host answered. Eventually, Schofield responded to Furlan’s message, too, and explained that the comment was just a joke.

“I’m always trying to give people the benefit of the doubt, but then I started to get kind of worked up because I was like, ‘I want to know why you would say that,’” she recalled. “Brooke responded to me and was like, ‘Oh my God, I don't even remember.’ She said something like, ‘I’m sorry, I was joking and I thought people would realize I was joking. I didn’t even actually interact with your husband at all.’”

Furlan said she found both Mongeau and Schofield to be “really nice,” but was still confused by the situation.

“I would never do that. I wouldn’t say, ‘I kissed this guy that’s been married for seven years,’” she said. “She was like, ‘I don’t know why I didn’t say I was just kidding after that.’ I’m like, OK, I get it, misunderstanding… People just say stuff sometimes and you just gotta go, ‘I trust my partner.’”

Furlan and Lee tied the knot in 2019 after two years of dating, and she opened up to PEOPLE about their private world in 2023.

“He’s the first guy that treats me so well. He cooks for us,” she said. “If his bonsai trees are blossoming, he’ll take me out and be like, ‘Look at the flowers,’ or he’ll pick a flower and put it in my car so when I get in, I see it. He just does all these really sweet things and I’ve never had anyone do that for me before. I can’t believe now when I look back on all of the bad relationships that I was in.”

On Thursday, Lee and his Mötley Crüe bandmates announced a Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM that will include 11 shows in March and April of next year.
