Britney Spears Explains Why Her 'Disturbing' Knife Dance Wasn't That Big Of A Deal

At this point, Britney Spears fans are used to the pop star's highly animated dances on Instagram. But a bizarre video of the singer slinging butcher knives while twirling around left followers pretty concerned this week, leaving some observers to call it "disturbing."

According to her caption to the strange video, the knives were fake, but the *clink, clink* noise the pair of butcher knives made when struck each other tell a different story.

"I started playing in the kitchen with knives today!!! Don’t worry they are NOT real knives!!! Halloween is soon," she wrote in the caption.

Given that the comments to the post were turned off, fans quickly turned to X (formerly Twitter) to express their concern.

"Britney Spears dancing with knives in her latest video. What next a gun? The woman needs help and fast," one user tweeted.

"Britney Spears is unwell. Posting peculiar videos and in the latest one, dancing with sharp kitchen knives. She needs mental help," another person added.

To calm fans' nerves, Britney clarified in an Instagram post yesterday that she was simply imitating fellow musician Shakira.

"Lighten up about the knives I’m copying Shakira," she wrote in the caption.

During this year's MTV Video Music Awards, Shakira did in fact dance with a pair of knives on stage. The singer received plenty of praise for her dancing, with one person on Instagram referring to it as "life changing."
