Britney Spears deactivates Instagram account: 'Don't worry folks'

Days after sharing the news of her engagement to boyfriend Sam Asghari on her social media, Britney Spears has deactivated her Instagram account.

The 39-year-old pop star - who had more than 34 million followers on the photo-sharing platform - momentarily shocked her fans when she disappeared from the site, before explaining what was going on over on her Twitter account.

Britney and Sam have been dating since 2016 and announced their engagement earlier this month.

The pop icon shared the happy news of the engagement on Sunday evening (US time) and showed off her sizeable diamond engagement ring online.

In the video, which appears to be taken inside the music icon's home, Iranian-American actor and model Sam asks Britney, "Do you like it?"

"Yes!" the 39-year-old replies excitedly while showing off the ring.

This will be Britney's third wedding after she tied the knot with childhood friend Jason Alexander in Las Vegas in January 2004. The marriage was annulled after 55 hours.

Sam recently revealed that he and his fiancee are both extremely competitive with each other.

"A lot of people don’t get that she’s a crazy, crazy athlete. We play tennis together. We play ping-pong together. She’s really good at ping-pong. It’s a real competition," he said.

"And I’m competitive, but I try to take it easy. Not because she’s a woman. Not because she’s weak, because she’s not. But I grew up with three sisters, so I learned that taking competition too seriously can lead to hurt feelings. Family take it easy on each other."
