Young bride, 18, plans to marry her biological father

A young woman has caused a stir online after opening up about her plans to marry her biological father, with whom she was estranged for 12 years.

Speaking in an interview with The Cut that explored the topic of Genetic Sexual Attraction, and has resurfaced on social media, the 18-year-old from the US revealed she and her dad had been in a relationship for two years and are now planning a ‘unique wedding’.

The woman said she and her father first spoke online, after he had reached out to her mother wanting to get back in touch.

“We chitchatted online for a few days and found out we were similar,” she told the publication in 2015. “We shared the same favourite TV shows — The Simpsons and The Big Bang Theory — and we both love to draw.”

She had only stayed with him for a week before she says they realised they had “strong feelings for each other”.

“We discussed whether it was wrong and then we kissed. And then we made out, and then we made love for the first time. That was when I lost my virginity,” she said.

Genetic Sexual Attraction is an abnormal condition – also known as “consensual incest” – that researchers believe can happen when biological parents reunite with their children (now much older) after years apart.

The bride-to-be was 16 when she reunited with her father after having not seen him for 12 years.

And now they are planning to have a wedding - even though it won’t be legally binding and her mother doesn’t know of her relationship with her biological dad.

“I want it to represent our uniqueness, so we aren’t doing a white wedding,” she said.

“My grandmother and grandfather — my fiancé’s parents — are going to attend and my grandpa will give me away.”

The story quickly caused a stir on social media with many calling the union ‘so wrong’.

“This is so wrong, so so so wrong,” one person wrote online. “I wish someone would step in and save this poor girl.”

“No, no, no. I hope to God she doesn’t go through with this wedding and she comes to her senses,” another said.

But the bride said people didn’t really understand their relationship.

“I just don’t understand why I’m judged for being happy,” she said.

“We are two adults who brought each other out of dark places. People need to research incest and GSA because they don’t get it and I don’t think they understand how often it happens.”
