Such Brave Girls follows Josie (Kat Sadler), her sister Billie (Lizzie Davidson) and their mum Deb (Louise Brealey), as they attempt to claw their way towards a better life. Per the synopsis: “Armed only with an ability to see the line and boldly step over it, these very brave girls finally have a chance to explore themselves.”

Season 1 of the show launched last year, as a loosely autobiographical story about dysfunctional family life. Sadler and her real-life sister Davidson star. Further casting and launch details on the six-part season 2 will follow.

Such Brave Girl’s writer and creator Kat Sadler recently picked up a BAFTA Craft award for Emerging Talent, Fiction. “It’s a sick pleasure that these horrible characters get to live another day and I’m now contractually obliged put them through hell again,” she said. “The BBC are masochists and I’m very grateful.”

The show, which is challenging for a BAFTA at this Sunday’s TV Awards, is a VAL production for BBC Three and BBC iPlayer, and Hulu. I May Destroy You and Dead Pixels maker VAL is among the indies BBC Studios has invested in over recent years.

The series was commissioned by Jon Petrie, Director of BBC Comedy and Fiona Campbell, Controller, Youth Audience (BBC iPlayer and BBC Three). Executive producers are Sadler, Jack Bayles and Phil Clarke in association with A24. Simon Bird is the director and Catherine Gosling Fuller the producer. The Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Gregor Sharp.

“In Such Brave Girls, Kat Sadler created a unique comedy that made a real impact with audiences,” said Petrie. “Her brave and honest take on the family sitcom showcases her undeniable talent and solidifies her position as one of the most innovative voices in comedy today, it was a no brainer to have the show back for a second time.”

“Kat landed the freshest, most wonderfully unhinged first series and it was an absolute pleasure making it with her and the BBC,” added VAL’s Bayles. “Such Brave Girls arrived fully formed with a purity of vision and a hunger to subvert, a second season is testament to Kat and the whole SBG team — who now need to come back and do it all again.”
