The Block suffers its second walk off

It’s only week five of The Block, yet already the show is facing its second walk off of the season.

This time around it looks to be South Australian couple Kerrie Charter and Spence Thomson who make the dramatic exit after the pressure proves to be too much.

It comes during one of the toughest weeks of the renovation – living and dining – and while the couple are attempting to make a statement move with their ceiling, foreman Dan discovers a major problem.

“The boys have used the wrong clips. All of yesterday’s work – all for nothing,” Dan tells Spence in the preview for the upcoming episode.

And while it’s the kind of news that’s never easy to hear, especially for Kerrie and Spence – who are struggling to meet the deadline already – their frustration reaches new levels.

“I don’t like doing things twice,” says an angry Spence who is seen refusing to redo the ceiling work as he compares the clips that only look slightly different.

“What’s the point?” Kerrie adds, irritated. “They just want the drama and look there’s the cameraman.”

Later the couple is seen storming down the street as they make their dramatic exit from the Melbourne renovation site, The Gatwick hotel, removing their building vests while they’re at it.

“I’ve just lost the care-factor” Spence can be heard saying.

Speaking to TV Week the couple confirmed that this was the week that really tested them and left them to genuinely consider quitting the show.

“We were deciding if this [The Block] was really for us, because there was nothing wrong with the clips. We were both sleep-deprived – especially Spence. It was the straw the broke the camel’s back,” Kerrie said.

Earlier this season, fellow contestants Sara and Hayden also threatened to quit the show after the harsh feedback for their pricey $75,000 bathroom saw them come last for the third week in a row, pushing them to breaking point.

“I don’t want to do this anymore. This was the biggest mistake of my entire life. We don’t want to be here anymore. I’m done,” Sara fumed when she threatened to quit The Block.

However, despite the pressure, the couple chose to stick it out one more week and with the help of design guru and judge Shaynna Blaze, came out on top with their winning bedroom reveal.
