Black Labrador Meets Life-Sized Halloween Doppelgänger and Hilarity Ensues

The arrival of fall also marks the unofficial beginning of seasonal Halloween decorations. It’s the time of year to find gigantic skeletons in front yards and ghosts blowing through the trees. However, our dogs aren’t always fond of these spooky displays.

This was especially true for a Black Labrador who encountered a prop resembling him. It’s fair to say his mom’s prank did not amuse him, but it’s certainly entertaining for us to witness.

Check out this video from September 8 to see how he felt about this imposter in the yard.

I wouldn’t have been able to leave this adorable Halloween decoration at the store, either. This is a true two-for-one! Lindsey got a terrific display for the holiday, and her beautiful Labrador Retriever, Jack (@mr_jack_the_lab), also gave her a great laugh. This masked skeleton dog looks very lifelike, and her good boy isn’t happy to see this doppelgänger in the yard. With his hacks up and bellowing woof, he charges across the lawn towards this intruder. LOL! Before he gets too close, he assesses the situation from a safe distance. Then, he finally moves in with his tail wagging to see if it’s a friend or foe. It didn’t take long for the intelligent guy to recognize that this black dog was a fake. Thankfully, he was a good sport about this prank and even posed for a photo on the porch with his look-alike.

How to Help Dogs Overcome Fear of Halloween Decorations

Jack isn’t the only pooch who doesn’t like Halloween decor. These unfamiliar, spooky ghosts and goblins can cause anxiety for many dogs. If your fur baby is uncomfortable, the AKC recommends giving them plenty of distance when they first encounter these displays. Allowing them to explore while giving them plenty of treats and praise can help create positive associations. Despite not being afraid of giant human skeletons, one of our neighbors put out an enormous skeleton dog this year that caused my pup's hair to stand up. Fortunately, passing by a few times on the sidewalk with lots of praise helped him to overcome his fear quickly.

People shared their own stories with this sensational decoration. Viewer @nurselaurenp reported, “I have this on our doorstep, and it’s so funny to see people react to the ring camera. I didn’t think it would startle so many. Lol.” It sure is realistic! Viewer @the_tiff_karacia revealed, “I brought this home last week and placed it on my front porch. My sweet lab gutted my window screen like a fish to get to it.” It seems fair if they felt it was an intruder.

If you hope to prank your dogs, you may still find one of these decorations near you. However, if you do, sleeping with one eye open for a while may be wise.
