Irwins hit back after fans left fuming over Bindi's wedding special

It’s been one of the most talked about Australian weddings of the year but fans have been left furious after it was revealed Aussies will be the last people who get to watch Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell tie the knot.

The Crikey! It's the Irwins wedding special aired on Saturday night in America on Animal Planet, showing Bindi being walked down the aisle at Australia Zoo by her brother Robert.

Fans in the US were delighted, tweeting their excitement at getting to watch the magical moment pan out on air, however Australian fans were left fuming when they discovered how long they would have to wait to watch the show.

Chandler Powell took to his Twitter account to upload all the dates the wedding special would be airing around the world.

“USA: NOW!,” he wrote, adding that the UK and Ireland would get to see the show on May 3rd, Taiwan on May 23rd and South Korea on July 3rd.

The wedding special will also air in Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macao, Mongolia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam on May 18th.

Chandler then revealed that Aussies will have to wait until July 18th to see the show, despite the special being filmed here and the family living in Queensland.

“I find it weird how the wedding took place in Australia and they’re the LAST ones to see it,” one person wrote.

“Why is Australia the last to get it? You literally live here. What sort of tv rights are going on…,” another person said.

“I’m so confused why Aussies have to wait the longest (July 18th) when you got married 40mins down the road from me?,” a fan tweeted.

Others pointed out that there is no date at all set for the show to air in New Zealand, forcing Terri Irwin to reply: “We have specifically asked Animal Planet about the scheduled premiere of Bindi and Chandler's wedding special in New Zealand

“We love our Wildlife Warriors neighbours! I'm sure they are doing their best to get the show to you as soon as possible. Stay healthy and happy!”

Chandler Powell also addressed the backlash over the dates, taking to his Twitter account to write: “Hi guys! Thank you to everyone who tuned in. Programming is out of our control as Animal Planet decides when to air the show. We will keep you posted as we find out more air dates!”

Bindi and Chandler said ‘I do’ in the gardens of Australia Zoo in March.

Within hours, critics slammed the pair for defying coronavirus safety precautions by going ahead with the nuptials.

Irate fans initially slammed the move as dangerous and risky, pointing out the government’s limit of five people per wedding, which came into effect at 12:00 am March 26, was not an arbitrary measure, but rather a necessary safety precaution that should be followed instantly.

Some wrongly assumed the wedding featured guests.

While initially confusing, as the decision to fast track the nuptials indicated it was to allow guests to attend ahead of the ban coming into effect, it was, in fact, a private affair.

The event reportedly only included Bindi’s mum Terry, and brother Rob Irwin who walked her down the aisle, as well as what looked like a camera crew, standing at a distance.
