Billie Eilish’s Brother, Finneas, Is Being Praised For His Response To A "Guess Who Killed Billie" AI TikTok

Billie Eilish’s brother, Finneas, is being praised after he responded to a seriously bizarre TikTok video about Billie getting killed. And yes, you read that correctly.

The video was actually posted by one of Billie’s fans, and somehow went semi-viral, which is probably how Finneas ended up coming across it.

In the TikTok, an AI version of Billie can be seen under the caption: “guess who k1lled billie based on their reactions.” What follows is AI clips of various “suspects” seemingly reacting to her “death,” including Finneas, their parents, Patrick and Maggie, and Finneas’s girlfriend, Claudia Sulewski.

The user who shared the video added in the caption: “proof that i’ll actually post anything,” and reiterated that they are a fan of Billie’s with the hashtag #iloveyoubillie, but Finneas was understandably not amused.

However, rather than explicitly calling out the distasteful topic of the video, the music producer took the opportunity to educate people on the economic dangers of artificial intelligence.

Undeniably still showing his disdain for the content in his comment, Finneas bluntly wrote: “You killed a forest with this amount of AI and for what.”

For reference, AI is considered particularly damaging to the environment because of the amount of technology it requires in order to learn and operate, particularly when it comes to AI videos and images.

The energy requirements for AI are significantly more than what is needed for regular computer use, and as demand for AI becomes more widespread, it will require unprecedented amounts of power.

In case you didn’t know, electricity use contributes to global greenhouse gas emissions, which, in turn, contributes to climate change.

If you still can’t quite wrap your head around it, here’s a quote from a research article by the nonprofit RAND Corporation that breaks it down even more: “Globally, AI data centers could need ten gigawatts (GW) of additional power capacity in 2025, which is more than the total power capacity of the state of Utah.”

But the OP insisted they had no idea that AI was so bad for the environment as they replied to Finneas, writing: “i sincerely apologize, i didn’t know using ai can cause that. i genuinely just thought it was a funny video,” and before long, another Billie fan had shared a screenshot of the exchange on X, which quickly went viral.

Praising Finneas for his ongoing commitment to raising awareness on eco issues, one popular response to the tweet reads: “He’s right btw ai is weird and also terrible for the environment.”

“wait can more celebs start commenting this pls it could help a lot,” another response with over 16k likes adds.

“i need more celebs with this energy, cause this has to be said,” one more echoed. Somebody else wrote: “Celebrities calling out fans who use ai... Brings a smile to my face.”

One more observed: “people are replying to his comment saying ‘GIRL HES JOKING ITS FINE’ his ass is not joking,” and another noted: “Billie and Finneas are always trying to spread awareness about environmental issue unfortunately some people are just ignorant and choose to ignore what’s actually going on.”

And it’s true that both Finneas and Billie have been incredibly vocal about climate change for some time now, with Billie even partnering with an organization called REVERB for her tours, which brings sustainability to entertainment through eco-friendly packaging, meat-free meals for workers, and — of course — methods to offset an artist’s carbon emissions.

On her most recent tour, Billie partnered with Google Maps to encourage fans to find the most eco-friendly way to get to the venues, and she also had plant-based food available at concession stands.Attendees were encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles to the shows by implementing free water refill stations, and ecovillages were set up at each venue to encourage fans to take urgent environmental and climate action by registering to vote, connecting with local climate non-profits, and more.

Merch-wise, all of Billie’s apparel is made out of 100% recycled cotton or polyester, posters from recycled paper, and vinyl using recyclable or recycled compounds, with all packaging made from recycled paper/boards. Even the ink used is eco-friendly, with it being ensured that it is plant-based and water-based dispersion varnish.

Billie also runs a regular climate conference called Overheated, which works to bring together “climate activists, musicians, and designers to discuss the climate crisis and their work to make a difference,” and she makes the impact reports from her tours publicly available.

In short, Finneas and Billie certainly walk the walk as well as talk the talk when it comes to eco issues, so it’s completely unsurprising that Finneas would also take this stance against AI.
