He made the revelation on Live with Kelly and Mark on Monday, Nov. 25, while discussing his new memoir, Citizen: My Life After the White House.
"I'd never been to one of her concerts before," he confessed to the hosts. "I get it now. I understand why she has such an impact on people and why a lot of these young girls are so captivated."
It wasn't just the younger fans, though. "But, a lot of older girls were, too," he joked. Clinton got to watch his whole group, which included friends and family of a variety of ages, experience the phenomenon. "I was fascinated watching our crowd of kids, especially my granddaughter, standing there with the wife of one of Chelsea's friends from 20-plus years ago, and her daughters — and all of them up there singing and they all knew the words to all the songs. It was great," he added.
Clinton was also impressed with the depth of Swift's performance, which lasts for over three hours. "She's not like a lot of people who do concerts," he said, calling her stamina a "very respectful thing to do for the audience."
While chatting about the record-breaking tour, Ripa asked if any of his family's friends had tried to use his clout to get backstage.
Surprisingly, "they didn't," though, candidly, the politician said he "probably couldn't have" even if he'd tried.
