Big W and ALDI launch massive back-to-school sales

Here's how mums and dads can get ahead as first term approaches.

Parents rejoice, it's almost time for the kids to return to school. Before then, it's a race to get back-to-school essentials from Big W and ALDI to ensure a smooth transition to a new year.

And according to Big W's annual Back to School Report, the vast majority (97%) of Aussie mums and dads are increasingly looking for value and quality as they expect to replace an average of 10 items per child in 2023. Parents are also savvier, looking to purchase more combo and bulk packs.

Big W's huge back-to-school range

"Kids will be kids, and we've all experienced that missing lunchbox or part of a sports kit suddenly disappearing. Not to mention the first school photos with that slightly oversized uniform to grow into," Big W's Christine Faulkner said. "That’s why we’ve gone back to school ourselves and created a range of affordable and durable school supplies with everything from uniforms, shoes, school bags, lunch boxes, water bottles and stationery. We are confident that families can get all their back-to-school essentials for under $200."

Big W has put together a full list of essentials for primary school kids that will set families back just $189.75 per child for 30 products - see suggested items below.

Stationery - $26.10

Uniforms - $126 (with shorts and pants) and $144 (with skirt and dress)

Bags - $12

Lunch box and bottle - $11

ALDI's back-to-school Special Buys

It's not just Big W helping cash-strapped Aussie parents. On Wednesday 11 January, ALDI's middle aisle of dreams turned into a one-stop shop for back-to-school essentials making it easy for parents to get organised for that first day back and avoid any last-minute preparation panic.

This year, ALDI has a range of premium leather school shoes, Mary Jane, lace-up or double buckle styles, priced at $24.99. For more active school days, the children’s joggers with elastic laces and self-fastening straps are perfect. They're light-weight and come in black, blush or navy for just $10.99. 

Premium fashion backpacks will also be available for $14.99, with pencil cases, notebooks and stationery in assorted designs.

Parents can keep lunch fun and fresh with JOIE sandwich cutters or lunch box divider sets ($2.99) and keep lunches fresh by packing them away in the Hoopla insulated lunch case ($8.99) and Cool Gear kid’s drink bottle ($5.99).

"We know back to school is a busy time for parents with convenience being key when preparing for the year ahead," ALDI's Kylie Warnke said. "We've carefully chosen all the products in our Back to School range to ensure ALDI is your one-stop shop for all the essentials at affordable prices.
