Created by the RIAA in 1958 to honor artists and create a standard to measure the commercial success of a sound recording, the Gold & Platinum Awards Program is the industry’s premier barometer for recognizing artistic achievement in the music marketplace.

The program trademarked the Gold Record (500,000 units) and initiated the practice of presenting awards to artists for music sales achievements. Later came the Platinum Award (1,000,000), Multi-Platinum Award (2,000,000 plus) and the Diamond Award (10,000,000 plus). Certifications must be applied for by the artist’s teams.

Among Beyoncé’s recognitions are 2x Platinum status for “Renaissance,” 4x Platinum for “Lemonade,” and 7x Platinum for “Sasha Fierce” and “Dangerously In Love.” Her platinum singles range from “Me Myself and I” to “Formation.” See a complete list here.

In March 2024, Beyoncé released her 11-time Grammy-nominated country set, “Cowboy Carter.” The 27 song LP is the most Grammy-nominated album by a female artist with recognitions in major categories such as record of the year (“Texas Hold ‘Em”,) album of the year, and best country album, along with recognition for “Bodyguard,” “Leviis Jeans” featuring Post Malone, “Spaghetti” featuring Linda Martell and Shaboozey, “16 CARRIAGES,” “II Most Wanted” featuring Miley Cyrus, and “YA YA.”
