Beyoncé Has Destiny’s Child Reunion in Vintage Patrick Kelly Button Dress for Kelly Rowland’s Birthday
Beyoncé reunited with her former Destiny’s Child bandmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, at Rowland’s recent birthday party. In a new post uploaded to her Instagram on Wednesday, Beyoncé shared snaps from the intimate evening, captioning it “Birthday bestie.”
For the occasion, the Grammy winner wore a vintage Patrick Kelly dress featuring gold button embroidery — a trademark of the late American designer. Beyoncé completed her look with statement earrings and a red lip, wearing her honey blond tresses in waves.

Rowland, meanwhile, opted for a dark blue velvet halter gown, while Williams sported a red frock covered in crystals.
Kelly, who died in 1990, was the first Black and American fashion designer to be admitted to the prestigious Chambre Syndicale du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode, a governing body within the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, the organization that manages Paris Fashion Week and Haute Couture Week.
Kelly’s creations were worn by the likes of Bette Davis, Grace Jones and Madonna and he was one of the first high fashion designers to embrace inclusivity: “I design for fat women, skinny women, all kinds of women,” he told People in 1987. “My message is, ‘You’re beautiful just the way you are.'” At one of his shows, he sent a model who was eight months pregnant down the runway.
Beyoncé wore a similar look at the premiere of “Mufasa: The Lion King” in December. Alongside her mother Tina Knowles, husband Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy, the “Cowboy Carter” artist walked the carpet in a strapless Balmain gown from the label’s collaboration with “The Lion King,” which was covered in mirrored embellishments.
Beyoncé reprised her role as Nala in “Mufasa: The Lion King” after appearing in the 2019 remake of Disney’s animated blockbuster. On Instagram, the pop star said she “could not be prouder” of her eldest child, who voices Simba’s and Nala’s daughter Kiara.
“My gorgeous baby girl. This is your night. You worked hard and you did such a beautiful job as the voice of Kiara,” she wrote. “Keep shining.”
Last summer, Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing teamed up with Disney to debut a collection inspired by “The Lion King” in honor of the film’s 30th anniversary.
“Obviously, ‘The Lion King’ is about Africa, so it felt like a reference to my own origins,” said the designer, whose discovery of his Somalian and Ethiopian roots was detailed in the 2019 documentary “Wonder Boy.”
