Gather your supplies

  • Old pine hall table

  • Dulux PrepLock Stain Blocker Water Base

  • Dulux Wash & Wear 101 Advanced Low Sheen in Whisper White and Cool (contrasting colour)

  • medium- and fine-grit sandpaper

  • masking tape or blue painter’s tape

  • paintbrushes

Here’s how

Step 1 - Using medium-grit sandpaper, sand table surface to create a key. Apply PrepLock and let dry. Sanding with fine-grit sandpaper in between coats, apply 2 coats of white paint. Allow paint to dry
between coats.

Step 2 - Mask off a large rectangle in centre of tabletop. Run your finger around inside edge of masking tape to prevent paint bleeding underneath tape. Using the contrasting colour, paint rectangle – 1 coat of paint is sufficient. Let dry, then peel away masking tape. Leaving a gap in between, use 2 strips of masking tape and mask off a narrow border within and around rectangle. Paint this gap white. When dry, peel away masking tape.

Step 3 - Using medium-grit sandpaper, distress table surface paying particular attention to the edges and anywhere that may be especially susceptible to wear and tear.
