Zendaya, Nicole Kidman and More Best Dressed at Met Gala 2024

The 2024 Met Gala brought plenty of ethereal, floral interpretations to the red carpet. The gala celebrated the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and the official dress code was “The Garden of Time.”

Topping the best-dressed list was cohost of the night Zendaya, who wore a Maison Margiela Artisanal look that was John Galliano at his best. The emerald green and blue look was composed of a lamé and organza bias-cut dress worn over a duchesse satin corset. The magic continued when it came to menswear, with Bad Bunny in a fitted Maison Margiela suit with a cinched waist, one of the trademarks of Galliano (and one of the big trends of the night).

Lana Del Rey in Alexander McQueen was another of the night’s best looks. In a custom McQueen by Sean McGirr, it was a reinterpretation of the legendary dress from Lee McQueen himself from fall 2006. His collection was called the “Widows of Culloden.” She looked like a mythological creature from an enchanted forest. The result was magical.

Maison Margiela creative director John Galliano created a bespoke couture look for co-chair Bad Bunny, which was composed of a midnight blue barathea wool smoking jacket with black grosgrain lapels, which was worn over a custom black satin corset. He accessorized with leather gloves, silk socks and a foam hat. Bad Bunny’s leather Tabi boots, worn with spats, were created by Christian Louboutin for Maison Margiela.

Gwendoline Christie

Gwendoline Christie’s custom Maison Margiela look featured a black tulle opera coat with bands of black crinoline worn over a blood orange silk velvet bias-cut dress and a satin couture corset. She carried a one of the label’s 5AC bags wrapped in laddered stockings, completing her ensemble with Tabi pumps by Christian Louboutin for Margiela.

The Met Gala raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and celebrates the Costume Institute’s annual exhibits. This year’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” nods to the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit, which will open to the public on Friday. The 2024 event is notably cochaired by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth and Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour.
