As we head into the end of summer, there's a certain urgency to squeeze in those classic summer activities you haven’t done yet. Often, these must-do moments take us back to childhood—like enjoying ice cream from a spot like Dairy Queen.

When it comes time to indulge in your favorite treat, are you a purist, ordering straight off the menu? Or do you prefer to venture into the unknown, dabbling in the “secret menu” to create your own creamy, cold, sweet concoction?

Dairy Queen has a fantastic secret menu, full of discontinued fan-favorite items that can still be made since the shop has all the necessary ingredients. One such treat is the Mud Pie Blizzard, a chocolate Blizzard mixed with cake crunch and fudge.

Another secret gem is Dairy Queen’s chocolate cone dip. This dip starts out liquid, but when it touches the cold ice cream, it quickly forms a delicious hard shell. Fans love the texture contrast between the hard shell and the creamy soft serve, but the shell often disappears before the cone is finished.

One creative fan discovered a hack to solve this problem and, in doing so, created another secret menu item.

The Latest DQ Blizzard Hack for Cone Dip Lovers

Instagram’s The Icing Artist shared a simple way to ensure you get that hard cone dip crunch with every bite of Dairy Queen ice cream: just order a cup of the dip on the side. “This chocolatey DQ hack is actually very easy and SO YUMMY! Chocolate lovers, rise up!!” she wrote in the caption. In her video, she tells her followers to “ask for a cup of the hot chocolate sauce—dip your Blizzard into it.”

In the video, she takes a spoonful of Blizzard (any flavor will do) and dips it into the liquid chocolate sauce. Then, she waits a moment for the sauce to harden before taking a bite.

“That’s really good,” she says. While some commenters noted that it’s no surprise chocolate pairs well with ice cream, the real point is, as one commenter highlighted, “This way you get the chocolate shell on each bite. And never run out of shell.”

Another commenter, who claims to have worked at Dairy Queen, shared an additional tip: “You can ask for dip blended into your Blizzard! It forms chunks of dip throughout and is really good,” they advised.

If you don’t live near a Dairy Queen or prefer to DIY your own ice cream treats, try making this Instant Chocolate Hard Shell recipe at home. You can dip your ice cream, whether homemade or store-bought, into it. Or, blend it into a milkshake during the last few seconds of mixing. Yum!
