There’s a reason supermodels and celebrities have glowing, radiant skin. Well, in addition to genetics and professional help from top dermatologists and aestheticians, they use body oil. Last summer, when Hilary Duff graced the cover of Women’s Health magazine in the nude, her makeup artist, Kelsey Deenihan Fisher, revealed she applied the Sol de Janeiro GlowMotions Glow Oil in Rio Sunset all over the star’s body.
Like everyone else, I rushed to Sephora to get my hands on the oil — but it was sold out. And actually, it’s still sold out at Sephora and on the brand’s website. That’s why I decided to do a little research to find some great alternatives. Below are six incredible bronzing body oils that are (mostly) still in stock to give you that coveted supermodel glow.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: Body oil sounds messy and totally greasy. However, these are dry body oils. Dry body oil is absorbed by the skin, so it doesn’t leave an oily, sticky residue on the surface. Think of it like giving your skin a much-needed drink.
Additionally, you should know that these body oils all contain a little bit of bronzer and shimmer to enhance the oil’s glowing abilities, too. That said, they’re bronzing, not self-tanning. That means that you’ll get an instant bronze glow, but once you wash it off, consider the color gone for good.
However, while you shouldn’t see any color transfer on your clothes, you may want to test it out first on an outfit you can toss in the washing machine, especially on a super hot and sweaty day. (In other words, don’t wear it with your favorite all-white, dry-clean-only outfit until you know you’re in the clear.)
Alas, take a look below, and stock up for the summer. You can apply these bronzing body oils all over, but there is one here that’s specifically for your face, too.
Not only is ColourPop’s Sol Body shimmering dry oil affordable, but it comes in nine pretty colors. You can choose one to give you a little bronzed look or choose a clear shimmer, holographic shimmer or pink shimmer. Essentially, it’s highlighter for your body in a bottle.
Sunday Riley’s skin care products are top-notch, and its shimmery body oil gel is loaded with good-for-you ingredients like vitamin C to fight the first signs of aging and balance out your skin tone. It’s not overly sparkly like some of the others on this list. Instead, it leaves behind a nice, subtle shimmer.
If you can find Patrick Ta’s Major Glow Body Oil in stock, get it. Right now, it’s available in two shades — in a regular and mini size — at Sephora. In addition to giving your body a nice glow, it features Patrick Ta’s signature fresh scent of jasmine, white musk and saffron.
NARS Monoi Body Glow is great for enhancing your tan or for people with medium-to-dark skin tones. The all-natural oil is made by soaking the bud of the tiare flower in coconut oil and then blending it for a translucent, bronze shimmer.
If you don’t mind the sweet scent of pineapple and honey, this conditioning body oil is a great, affordable option. It leaves your skin feeling extra soft, and it contains vitamin C to brighten skin while you wear it.
You don’t need a powder bronzer or contour stick to make your face glow. Mix Tan-Luxe’s Super Gloss Instant Bronzing Face Drops in with your everyday face moisturizer and apply them as you usually do. The bronzing serum will give you a subtle glow, but it also offers sun protection with an SPF 30. Additionally, it contains hyaluronic acid and squalane to hydrate and plump skin without feeling heavy or greasy. It’s especially great for no-makeup days.
