Belligerent JetBlue Passenger Restrained by Other Customers After Mid-Flight Altercation: 'Take Him Down'

A seemingly drunk passenger aboard a JetBlue flight from London to New York was restrained by multiple fellow passengers after he started exhibiting violent behavior mid-flight.

The incident occurred on Tuesday aboard Flight 1926 as it was headed for John F. Kennedy airport, the airline confirmed to PEOPLE.

In a video captured by another passenger on board, more than four passengers can be seen holding down the man as he attempts to break free. His female companion can be heard saying, “Ben, stop fighting them” after asking one of the men restraining him to remove their hands from his face.

Another voice can be heard telling the woman, “I need you to back up,” repeatedly followed by another person shouting, “take him down!”

The group starts to move down the aisle as the passenger continues to resist. Someone can be heard crying in the background and a parent seemingly reassures his child by saying, “I’m right here.”

JetBlue confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE, “a customer on board Flight 1926 with service from London to New York, began acting erratically and aggressively toward his travel companion and members of the inflight crew.”

“The crew also discovered an opened bottle of liquor the customer had brought on board and indications of intoxication. For everyone’s safety, the customer was restrained with the assistance of other customers who were witnessing this threatening behavior.”

The airline confirmed that “the flight landed safely at New York’s JFK Airport where it was met by law enforcement who took over the situation," and added, "We appreciate our customers’ assistance and understanding during this incident and apologize for the experience.”

A representative for the Port Authority tells PEOPLE, "the plane landed safely with no further incident or reported injuries and no arrest was made by Port Authority police."
