Bella Hadid gets real about her mental health in emotional post: 'Harder and harder'
Bella Hadid has shared an emotional post on instagram opening up about her struggles with mental health.
The 25-year-old model took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a lengthy message with her more than 47 million followers, as well as several photos of herself crying.
She began by quoting Willow Smith and praising her for drawing attention to the insecurities and anxieties that so many struggle with.
"I love you and your words," she wrote, tagging Willow. "It made me feel a little less alone and that’s why I’d like to post this."
Willow's quote reads: "That feeling of thinking that you’re good enough or being insecure about your art - is natural - but at the same time, I feel like it’s taught. All humans are different, every single human has something so special and unique to offer. And people forget that everyone is basically feeling the same way: lost, confused, not really sure why they’re here. That anxiety, like, everyone is feeling that - and trying to cover it up in some way. We’re gonna come together in our flaws. In our insecurities, in our joy, in our happiness, and accept it all as beautiful and natural."
Bella revealed the quote really hit hit home for her.
"This is pretty much my every day, every night for a few years now," she penned.
"Social media is not real. For anyone struggling, please remember that," she continued.
"Sometimes all you’ve gotta hear is that you’re not alone. So from me to you, you’re not alone. I love you, I see you and I hear you. Self-help and mental illness/chemical imbalance are not linear and it is almost like a flowing rollercoaster of obstacles… It has its ups and downs, and side to sides."
She urged her followers to try to stay positive and know that there is always a "light at the end of the tunnel."
"The rollercoaster always comes to a complete stop at some point," she said. "There is always room for it to start up again, but for me, it’s always been nice to know that even if it’s a few days, weeks, or months, it does get better, to some extent, even for a moment)."
Bella went on to explain that it took her a "long time" to adopt that mindset during her own struggles, revealing she has suffered from many breakdowns and burnout.
"If you work hard enough on yourself, spending time alone to understand your traumas, triggers, joys, and routine, you will always be able to understand or learn more about your own pain and how to handle it," she added.
Then she concluded by adding that nowadays, it's become increasingly difficult not to be transparent on social media.
"Not sure why but it feels harder and harder to not share my truth on here."
Bella's post was quickly met with supportive messages from her fans, thanking her for being so candid and vulnerable.
"Thank you for sharing this, Bella. The world is a strange place right now, and we're all feeling the effects of it on our mental health. It's something universal, and definitely not something to be ashamed of. Everyone wants to seem perfect and happy on social media, but that's never the reality. Even for rich, famous and beautiful people like you," one person commented.
"You're not alone. Literally, everyone I know including myself is going through it right now. Keep your head up, and keep speaking your truth. If we all stop fronting like we're ok for a minute, we can actually lean on each other, and feel a sense of community again. It's not every man for himself!" added another.
"I needed this so much especially today thank you for sharing this it’s truly appreciated."
"These are very important words, especially now. Thank you so much!" another agreed.
