Teen's Instagram account deleted after 'fat' selfie

A 19-year-old woman in the US has had her Instagram account deleted after she posted photos of herself in her underwear.
Samm Newman, a college student from Ohio, uploaded a selfie showing her standing in front of her bathroom mirror wearing underwear.
While Instagram has a policy forbidding images showing nudity and other ‘mature’ content, Newman’s bra-and-undies selfies are nipple-free.
The outspoken teen, who also happens to be size 28, claims she’s the victim of body discrimination, citing countless examples of scantily clad women appearing in Instagram photos that are deemed acceptable by the social media network.
“I didn't find them or the bra at all inappropriate," Newman told NBC4 in the US. "They covered me entirely and I've seen pictures like that all over Instagram.”
The teen has reportedly battled with low self-esteem for years, and found support from ‘body positive’ communities who shared photos on Instagram using the hashtag #bodylove.
Her account has since been reactivated, with Instagram issuing a statement acknowledging their mistake.
This isn’t the first time Instagram has hit the headlines for overzealous policing of its “community guidelines”.
London mum Courtney Adamo had her popular Instagram account deactivated after she posted a seemingly innocent photo of her 18-month old daughter exposing her tummy.
Meanwhile a campaign to end Instagram’s policy of banning images showing female nipples has gained the support of celebs including Scout Willis and Cara Delevingne.
Willis famously tweeted a photo showing her walking on a New York street – topless – with the hashtag #freethenipple.

Delevingne, another enthusiastic social media user, has posted a number of #freethenipple photos designed to push the boundaries of Instagram’s community guidelines.
